Since Thanksgiving is coming up, I felt that it was appropriate to send a message to the important people in my life. Those still in it, and those who are not. New and old. Those I love or have loved. The only difference is, I’m not going to say who each message is for, they’ll all live under a pseudonym. Sooo, if you know, you know!

Dear Best Friend,

My biggest supporter, my number 1 fan, my everything. My first thanksgiving thank you goes to you. When I was 3 I would fall a lot, but you were there to catch me. And when I got sick, you held me tight and made me some warm tea. When I was 5, you walked me to kindergarten, and told me to behave. When I was 9, I became a model, and you told me to be brave. When I was 13, I finished middle school, and you came to my graduation. The month before my 15th birthday, you took me on vacation. When I turned 16 you threw a party, and made a facebook post: “Happy birthday to my oldest daughter, for you we take this toast!” When I was 17 I applied to college, and god, I was so scared. You told me that you’re proud of me, and then I knew you cared. Then 18 came and high school ended, and so came graduation. It rained and it poured, but we still had a celebration. So I thank you, best friend, for believing in me when I did not. For all the little things and life lessons you’ve taught. Thank you for everything that you have and will do. Look at the person you helped me grow into. Through 18 years of my life, you were there every day, 6,815 days in specific, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. So thank you, best friend, I’d rather no other, I’m so proud to call you: my beautiful mother.

Dear Papaya,

I want to take a moment to appreciate the one who has been my guide, my support, and my role model- Papaya. Your love and strength has shaped the way I work and function, and for that, I’m truly grateful. Thank you for putting up with my obsession with work, and driving me very early in the morning to essentially be paid to be a clown. Honestly, a simple ‘thank you’ doesn’t seem enough for all you’ve done for me, but it comes from the heart. I appreciate you more than words can convey. Your encouragement has given me the confidence to chase my dreams. Even though sometimes you don’t agree with my decisions, nor do I yours, I know you have my best interest in mind and I could not be more grateful to have you by my side. Thank you for all the sacrifices you’ve made for me, and for all of the love you’ve shown me. I know it must be hard with me so far, in fact, everyone has told me that you were devastated that I chose Bentley, but I know you were proud of me regardless. So thank you for pushing me to be my best. Thank you for being there for me. And thank you for giving me all of these opportunities in life.

Dear Nuff Nuff,

Even though sometimes we fight and have arguments and call each other the stupidest, most unsensible things imaginable, I love you. Sometimes, I sincerely want to strangle you but I am so proud of you and all of your accomplishments. You are turning into such a beautiful young demon child. I’m so upset that I am so far away from you, but I’m sure you don’t mind one bit. I cannot wait to see you soon and unleash 3 months worth of teasing on you. Don’t have too much fun on your first official solo vacation without me. And please, for the love of everything on Earth, get a better taste in men. It’s absolutely embarrassing.

Dear Babuska i Dedushka,

Thank you for always being by my side and supporting me and basically watching me grow up. Growing old is hard, and it must have been especially hard on you watching me grow up and knowing that you are too. So thank you for all of the things you’ve done for me, helped me with and supported me through. I love you all and will for 100 more years. I am forever grateful for you, and I love you more than words can express. You have shown me what it means to live a good life. ĐĄĐżĐ°ŃĐžĐ±ĐŸ.

Dear Homie Hopper,

First of all, I’m dying over the fact that I’m calling you a homie hopper. It was either that or “discord kitten” so I’m sure this one is better. I wanna start this off by saying that I miss you so much. Not having our daily string bean run-ins, sh!t talking chats and gossip/SEL sessions with [Redacted] is absolutely killing me. I can’t wait to see you sometime soon because I sincerely need to hear about all the chaos that you are starting in college. It’s been like 2 months and your entire demeanor has changed, including your sleep schedule (3am is not okay) and texting style. I was scared of you before but now I’m petrified of you. Love you ms Football loving, homie hopping, RA obsessing, psychotic 4’11 FREAK. Number 21 out.

Dear Bird Watcher,

To my new best friend, my literal ride or die, my bestie from the other side of the country
Thank you. I think it is safe to assume, neither of us expected to be such good friends considering I’m from New York and you’re from the middle of nowhere, but I am so glad that we are. Our humor somehow just matches and we just make each other crack up for hours on end. I could not be more grateful for you and for your constant support, friendship and commitment. I am so glad we found each other because college would genuinely not be the same without you, and I think I would be locked up in my room 24/7 without you. You are so smart, funny and just such a joy to be around. I love all of our inside jokes, like all the birds we see together, the list of “stuff” we’ve heard, our campus characters, etc. Thank you for being there for me.

Dear Snail,

I am so beyond thankful for you. My little snail. Immediately after meeting me, you teased me about liking the Rangers because you’re a nasty Devils fan (even though you’re from Long Island). However, I flipped the script and bought a Bruins jersey as a decoy so you didn’t tease me about the Rangers anymore and would hate on the Bruins instead. After that, I knew we would get along really well, you just got me somehow. Although I sincerely hate you, because you torture me soooo much, you are singlehandedly one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. You are the reason [redacted] and I wrote “don’t settle for the bare minimum” on the whiteboard in a random study room, because you are so much more extra than any other person that I know. So thank you Snail for being so amazing, sweet and hardworking, (and slightly CRAZY) and making sure I’m being my best self. P.S. your name was going to be “Wannabe Bald Eagle” because you simply don’t understand how ICONIC the bald eagle is- you’re just a wannabe. Even though you’re pretty iconic yourself, you cannot be Bald Eagle so DON’T TRY. However, when you texted me “Bald Eagle has landed” I audibly cackled because I was simply not expecting you to use this terminology without understanding the joke. I’m so happy to have you in my life, and thank you for everything that you’ve done for me. I’m so proud of you, even though I wanna whack you sometimes.

Dear Bald Eagle,

I see you everywhere. It is terrifying. What’s ironic is that this is literally your nickname because I met you once at some accounting thingamabob, where you offered me some nice advice on my career. I politely said “thank you, I’ll see you around” as you were leaving, except this backfired on my HEAVILY because approximately 10 minutes after you left, I forgot your name, and now I see you literally everywhere. I go to dinner, YOU go to dinner.  I go to the library, YOU go to the library. I go all the way down to Currito, AND THEN YOU SWOOP IN. Maybe I should keep some seeds in my bag just in case you’re hungry. I hope you hibernate safely this winter. I’ll see you next year. P.S. I know Flex is your cousin, don’t try to hide it.

Dear Newbies,

Thank you to everyone I have met here at Bentley. I was so worried going into college that I wouldn’t fit in, that the experience would be scary, or the people would be mean; I could not have been more wrong. Everyone that I have met has their own story, each unique in their own ways, and each are all the sweetest people. So this thank you goes out to all of the people I met in college that have talked to me, helped me in any way or made me feel less like an outsider. I couldn’t be more happy going to school with you. Thank you.

Dear “Slayer,”

I felt like after such a long time of knowing each other, you deserve a thank you as well. I don’t think you realize how impactful your friendship has been on my life, or maybe you do, I don’t know. I regret absolutely nothing when it comes to everything, in fact, I’m so happy that I met you. Wishing you all the best in life, I know you’re going to do great things because you’re such a smart and hardworking person. I’ll never forget all of our stupid inside jokes like doink and all our late night Oldies but Goodies jam out sessions. Thank you for the friendship, thank you for the smile. Thank you for the love you showed me for a while. True, my heart was broken, and yeah my eyes did cry. But I’m over it, because I know you’re a good guy. So thank you for the lesson, I appreciate all you do, go get ‘em shortie, you know I’m proud of you. I’ll always be here for you if you need me, and if you don’t, I’ll always be cheering for you from over here. Go change the world doink, and send me a photo of your Porsche when you get one.

Dear Fast and Furious,

Thank you little kiddo for always being there for me and supporting me through everything. You know I love you so much and will always be there to support you. Judging by the way you drive, I know you’re absolutely crazy so I hope you drive safely when you get your first official car. I cannot wait to see photos because I know you will be at a ton of car shows. I’ll always be here for you, even if we are on two completely different paths in life. I know you’re going to do great things, you’re such an amazing kid. Stop stressing about the small stuff, it’s not worth it. And especially stop stressing about stupid stuff, you are absolutely amazing and I will always be proud of you and everything that you do. You got this little kiddo, go show them who’s boss. And thank you for giving me the confidence to go out and do the same.

Dear Hockey Star,

Continue being a hockey player, but stop being a player. Also, what in the world is a bitty?! Regardless, thank you for being funny and cheering me up when I needed it. You are gonna be a pro hockey player one day, and I hope you never forget me when that happens. If you ever need help with math, feel free to text me (even though I absolutely despise it with all of my heart) Thank you for also owning the best kitten ever. She’s so cute and fluffy and I wish I could steal her from you. Never give up on your dreams, and I hope to see you in Boston in a couple of years.

Dear Football Player,

I know we don’t talk a lot, and technically we are only friends by association, but I value your friendship so much. We met because of [redacted] and words cannot describe the fear I felt before meeting you for the first time, but I couldn’t be happier that it all worked out. You are easily one of the sweetest, most hardworking people I’ve ever met and I’m positive you’re going to do great things. So this thank you is for being so welcoming of me and encouraging me to follow my dreams. Wishing you the best of luck in the future, but you definitely don’t need it because I know you’ll do great things.

Dear Mr. Finance,

Thank you for being such a significant influence in my life from such an early age. I had no idea what I wanted to be, but I knew that I wanted to take Finance. That decision was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. With your guidance, I am where I am today. I may not have known a lot, nor been the most intrigued in finance, but ever since meeting you, you gave me opportunities that I will forever be thankful for. From the support that you gave me, to the opportunities you’ve provided, I am a little bit more ready to go out and to conquer the world.

Dear Bus Buddy,

This thank you is especially special to me because of how important you are to me. Going on such a big trip, so far away from home, knowing that I would be mostly alone was a very difficult decision. I wasn’t sure how this trip was going to go, especially having an odd number of students, but you made it better. Our chats, storytimes and adventures have made such an impact on my life and I could not be more grateful for meeting you and getting to know you. You are such an amazing person and influence on me and everyone that you come across. Thank you for treating me so well on that trip and being my friend when everyone already had their little group. And thank you for standing up for me. I love you and hopefully I’ll see you soon.

Dear Award Giver,

I think it is because of you that I want to pursue a minor in accounting. Never in a million years would I have expected to like something that has to do with numbers this much, but you and your class proved me wrong. There have been so many times that I have spoken about you already, told your story and praised your work, but I never really got the chance to thank you for everything that you have done. I am beyond excited to work at your future accounting firm and hopefully be a part of your journey. Thank you for always supporting me and giving me a pretty sturdy safety net if I need it. I hope you are doing well, and I am wishing you the best of luck as a partner.

Dear Party Planner,

This was my first official job, and needless to say, I loved it so much that it’s still my job. I cannot be more thankful for having this experience because now I use it in my everyday life. It’s physically and mentally exhausting, but this has been the most rewarding job ever. I loved it so much that I wrote a college essay about how significant this job has been to my life. So thank you for giving me this opportunity, and letting me do something that I love.

Dear Skating Coaches,

To the four amazing coaches that I had, who I grew up with, who I woke up SO EARLY on a Saturday morning to see: thank you. I don’t think I knew how much this experience would impact my future back when I was 8 years old. Now 10 years later, I am working as an ice crew (and potentially a coach?!) in college. I get paid to do something I love, and without your support back when I was my nagging 8 year old self, that wouldn’t have been possible. I know a lot has changed since I last skated at the rink, and I know a couple of you aren’t there anymore, but wherever you are, I am so beyond thankful for everything you’ve done for me. Wishing you all the best.

Dear Roomies,

This is a pretty obvious one, but I want to thank the both of you for being so cool. I was worried that having two roommates in such a small room would be a nightmare, and that you’d be gross, disgusting and horrible people, but I am so glad that you are not. I’ll admit that for a while I thought you hated me, which lets be fr, you probably do (I decorate too much..) but I am so glad that you put up with it and my wildest door decorating dreams. (p.s. it literally looks amazing and I am so grateful that we we’re elves together.) Thank you for bringing me so much joy and for allowing me to have a feeling of home away from home. I’m glad that everything between us works out and we don’t interfere with each other or “collide.” I know our paths in life will soon change and we will continue to grow, but know I will forever keep a place in my heart for you. Thank you guys for everything.

Dear Best Club Ever,

Before joining this club, and even still, I have been insanely shy and afraid to leave my comfort zone. Going into college, I was so scared that I wouldn’t find my place, that I somehow made the wrong choice of where to go to school , and that I wouldn’t belong. I was wrong. After gaining the courage to write articles that made me happy, I have found a home here. This thank you is for everyone in the club who’s supported me and let me be myself without fearing any judgment. Yes, not everyone in the club knows my name, or who I am, or my story in general, but everyone is still sweet, supportive and encouraging of me and my dreams. Thank you to the E-board for coming and hosting meetings, planning fun events and giving me something to look forward to every Tuesday. And an even more special thank you goes out to the president, who most definitely doesn’t know it, but has made such a significant impact on my college experience so far. Can’t wait for what’s to come!
