Tips for Making Money this Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Summer’s coming up soon. Bring on the beach, the sun, and the sand. Time to start thinking about what to do to fill your time. Whether you have a job lined up for this summer or not, it never hurts to have a little extra spending money on the side for spontaneous adventures.  Here are a few practical tips for making a little extra cash this summer:

  1. Clean out your closet: Everyone has old clothes they they love, but just don’t wear anymore. With styles constantly changing, it’s nearly impossible to keep up. One way to make money is to sell your gently worn clothes with popular app, Poshmark. On Poshmark you can buy and sell clothes in minutes.
  2. Find a small summer job: If you start looking soon enough, you may find that local ice cream shops in your area are hiring for the summer. It’s a quick and easy way to make some extra cash.

  3.  Sell old textbooks: The Bentley bookstore may not take back every book, but there are always underclassmen that will need it more than you will! Post on Facebook groups and wait for the offers to roll in.

  4.  Become a tutor: Now that we’re in college, any high school courses should be a piece of cake. Offer to tutor family members or neighbors, or apply to be a tutor at a learning center.

  5. Sell crafts: For those of you who are more creative, you could start your own shop on Etsy.com and make various jewelry, paintings, collages, or whatever you like and sell it to those who are interested! One of my friends recently started her own making custom canvas paintings for people who are interested.
