Ranking of TV/Movie Streaming Services

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

Sometimes all anyone needs is a night to stay in and binge watch good television or movies. However, watching television and renting or buying DVD’s can be time consuming and expensive and more and more people are getting used to the idea of being able to stream whatever it is they want to watch, whenever and wherever they want to watch it. Television and move streaming sites are becoming bigger and more popular, but when it comes to choosing just one, how do you pick? Here’s a little ranking input from the Her Campus team at Binghamton University.

1. Netflix

Maybe I’m biased because my favorite show is “Orange is the New Black,” but Netflix is truly exceptional in the services it offer its customers. Netflix hosts a wealth of popular television shows and films such as “Pretty Little Liars,” “30 Rock,” “The Office,” and is constantly working on growing it’s show catalog. You can search by genre on Netlflix or let them do the work for you by putting in your show preferences and letting them know which shows in their catalog are your favorite and they’ll make a customized list of suggestions just for you. Do your family members want in on the fun? No problem! You can create individual family member pages so that when you log on, you’re not getting suggestions for mom’s favority reality shows and your brother isn’t getting suggestions for your favorite romcoms. Want to explore some new shows? Netflix has its own shows available for streaming. Heard all the hype of “Orange Is The New Black” and want to see what it’s all about? Then, sign up for Netflix because it’s a Netflix-produced show and only available to watch on there!

2. Youtube

Yes, it’s a video-streaming service and offers more than you may know. Often times, it’s not an entire television or movie you want to watch but just some fun videos instead. Whether it be music videos, informational videos, comedy- Youtube hosts a wealth of videos to satisfy any video-lovers palette. Simply, just type in the type of video you want to watch, and more often than not, Youtube will have it. If you do want to watch a film, Youtube can come in handy for that sometimes too with a pay-per-view option for an array of films, Youtube can satisfy your diverse video needs whatever they may be.

3. iTunes

Not the classical video-streaming service but just about anything you want to watch on your Apple devices can be purchased from the iTunes store using iTunes gift cards saved onto your Apple account or any other form of payment you prefer. Don’t feel like keeping a particular film in your iTunes library after watching it? iTunes has an option to rent movies for 24 hours at a lower price and without ever having to leave your seat, in a matter of minutes after hitting the download button, you have a movie ready to watch on your Apple device.
