Ever wonder who the face behind HC Bing is? Well, here she is.
Meet Raven Rivera, senior, majoring in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Her Campus Binghamton’s President and Editor-in-Chief.
Though she may have started out college on the pre-med track, she quickly realized her dream of being a plastic surgeon was actually just her dream of being on Grey’s Anatomy. But medicine aside, her true passion has always been writing.
Having written numerous articles for HC Bing and taken every journalism class possible at BU, she has decided to take all that she has learned and follow her actual dream of becoming a television writer.
“I know it’s crazy that I’ve changed my career goals so many times but I know television is where I belong,” said Rivera.
Rivera’s love for musicals, romantic comedies, and sitcoms has led her to the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University where she will be working towards her Masters in Television, Radio and Film.
Though she is excited about starting grad school and focusing on something she truly loves, she says she will miss Binghamton tremendously.
“These four years have been without a doubt, the best years of my life,” she said. “I really can’t imagine my life not in Binghamton but I guess I’ll have to find out what it’s like eventually!”
Before she starts grad school in July, she hopes to recover from her depression following graduation by drinking a lot of wine and spending as much time with her friends and family as possible.
“Graduating is really sad and it’s scary but I want to make the best out of the month I have off before I’m thrown back into school,” she said.
When she’s not busy editing away at articles for HC Bing, you can catch her belting out Adele tunes in her living room and throwing dance parties in her bedroom. And, of course, she has her own TV schedule to keep on track with all of her favorite shows.
“Right now I’m obsessed with Revenge, Once Upon a Time, and Girls,” she said. “But I will forever love Glee, Modern Family, and The Office… even without Michael Scott.”Â
