If you were a kid in the 90s or early 2000s, there is so much nostalgia related to it. From TV to movies to toys and more. Even if you were not a kid during these times, many of the things on this list may still resonate with you. So without further ado, here are 5 things you’ll most likely remember from your childhood.
- Watching Disney Channel Original Movies
If you were a kid in the 90s or early 2000s, you probably saw at least one DCOM. These films were shown exclusively on Disney Channel and were the best when you were younger. I especially loved watching DCOMS during the holidays, since many were releasing or playing at the time went with the theme of the season (like Halloweentown during Halloween, or The Ultimate Christmas Present during Christmas times). Personally, my favorite Disney Channel Original Movies included: Lemonade Mouth, High School Musical, Zenon, Get A Clue, and Tiger Cruise. What were your favorites?
- Playing On A School Playground
One of the worst things about going to middle school was that it was now the time when many of us had to say goodbye to recess. Recess was the time when we could run off steam, play pretend, and have fun with sports and playground equipment. While I can’t speak for all high schoolers or college kids, I believe that if I asked many older students who are long past elementary school if they’d like to go out to play for recess they would say yes.
- Highlights Magazine for Children
Whether you were in the dentist’s office or at the school library, there was always Highlights Children Magazine to keep you busy. These colorful pages kept you entertained for hours with their comics, stories, puzzles, and more. It is always fun to look back at old media that you loved as a kid and Highlights Is certainly one that holds a lot of nostalgia for many people.
- Saturday Morning Cartoons
When you’re an adult, Saturday mornings are reserved for sleeping. When you’re a kid though, they are reserved for one thing…Saturday morning cartoons. Saturday morning cartoons played on a variety of stations over the years, but what I remember fondly was watching Recess or Kim Possible on ABC on Saturday mornings, with a bowl of sugary cereal next to me.
- Scholastic Book Fair
If there’s one thing that I miss about school, it is the Scholastic Book Fair. The carts filled with books and games. The poster you could purchase ( I believe I still have my Jonas Brothers poster originally from the Scholastic Book Fair). Our parents would give us some money for the fair, and we would be in heaven surrounded by new books to buy, trinkets to fill our desk, and so much more. It was a fun experience that I still miss, even to this day.
