Grace Fernandez ’15
Age: 22
Major: Early Childhood Education Pre-K-4Hometown: Wyckoff, New Jersey

Her Campus: What do you enjoy most about your major?Grace Fernandez: The Early Childhood Department at Bloomsburg is seriously such a phenomenal department and has really created a sense of community for me at Bloomsburg. My professors and the dean have gone above and beyond to help ensure that I am going to be the best educator I can be when I graduate. Honestly, I love so many things about my major! I love the friends I have made who also share a passion for teaching and motivating young people to learn. Overall, I think being an Early Childhood Education major has allowed me to understand that as a future educator I have the skills to teach young people to become passionate about learning. This idea of allowing students to love to learn and become life-long learners is so exciting to me!

HC: What is your advice to the freshman class?GF: Seriously get involved and utilize all the support Bloomsburg University has to offer you as a student. Don’t skip class because you will fall behind and regret it. Get to know your professors and allow them to get to know you. Make at least one friend in every class. The freshmen fifteen is real, so think twice before you get late night. Seriously. Don’t judge anyone! Meet and make as many friends as possible because college is the best 4 years of your life (well for me 5) but the relationships you make at Bloomsburg will last a lifetime!

HC: Do you enjoy the term “Super Senior?”GF: The term Super Senior should not be viewed negatively. College is a different journey for everyone and sometimes that journey takes longer than expected. I was unhappy with my major as a Sophomore and decided to switch into Education. I knew that switching my major late in my college career would add more time but I am thankful I did. I will now graduate with a degree in something I am so passionate about it. I am so excited to utilize the skills I learned at Bloomsburg to start the next chapter of my life!

HC: What are your plans after you get your degree this spring?GF: I plan on utilizing all the knowledge and experiences I have gained at Bloomsburg University to get a job as an Elementary school teacher. My main goal after obtaining my degree is to become the best educator I can be as well as a mentor for my students. I want to create a sense of community for my future students within the classroom that motivates them to attend school everyday.

HC: What has been your favorite Bloomsburg memory so far?GF: Looking back at the last four years there is no way I could choose just one memory as my favorite at Bloomsburg University. My college career thus far has truly been such a blessing. The memories I have created within my sorority Theta Tau Omega will forever be imprinted on my heart. As well as the memories I have created in my classes and working alongside my peers and professors. Bloomsburg will forever have a special place in my life because of the overwhelming support, knowledge, and experiences I have had at this University.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
GF: Happy. I see myself living in New Jersey and teaching in an Elementary School. Ideally, I will have an apartment in Hoboken, a tan boyfriend with a British accent, and three french Bulldogs. Realistically, I will probably only be a teacher living in New Jersey but essentially that’s all that really matters right? Hopefully the dogs and the tan British boyfriend just fall into place along the way!

HC: Why should girls/boys choose to rush a frat/sorority?GF: When most people think about fraternities and sororities all they think is parties. But going greek means so much more. Greek life allows you to participate and become a leader within the community. Greeks do hundreds of hours of community service each year and raise money for several different Philanthropies and organizations. Joining a sorority allowed me to create unique friendships with all different people whose relationships both humbled and inspired me. Greek life provides a network of supportive, intelligent, and hardworking people to come together to make positive changes on and off campus. My experiences as member of Theta Tau Omega and joining Greek Life at Bloomsburg have been nothing but positive and I encourage everyone to go through rush.
