Being in college is a hard time for any student whether it is academics, athletics, socially or fitness. With all of the stress we as college students deal with it’s easy to snack and snack and snack until we realize too late that we’ve gain the freshman fifteen…at any year. So what happens when we’re at a weight and body image that we can’t stand?

MacKenzie is a BU student who decided around 4 weeks ago that she wanted a change for her body and for herself.

What made you want to lose weight?
I played sports in high school so I was always in shape and fit. Once I got to college, I didn’t want to work out anymore because I wasn’t forced to. I eventually started to hate the way I looked and hate myself for not staying in shape. I realized that getting back into shape was the only thing that could make me happy again.

What are your meals like?
My eating habits were the most difficult to change. However, after realizing that I needed to change what I ate I now have no cravings for unhealthy foods and that feels awesome! When I eat crappy, I feel crappy.

Breakfast – I eat oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, sometimes with honey wheat bread and peanut butter with jelly.
Lunch – I eat vegetables, chicken, hard boiled eggs…pretty much anything because I still have the rest of the day to burn off those calories.
Dinner – I eat some sort of meat and two vegetables.
Snack – I snack on fruits and peanuts.

What are your goals you hope to reach?
To be the best version of me. I don’t have a set weight I want to reach because I know first hand that as long as I keep weight lifting, I’m going to either gain weight or remain the same and that’s fine. I don’t obsess about my weight. I let the mirror monitor my progress.

How do you track your progress?
The night I decided to better myself I decided to start with taking “before” pictures. Needless to say, I cried for 4 straight hours.  I take a progress picture every Friday to see how much I’ve changed. It’s an awesome feeling to see how far my body has come in just 4 short weeks.

Other comments –
I NEVER skip a workout day – there’s always something that can be improved!

Things to remember
Don’t starve yourself – you will NEVER get the results you want from not eating.
Working out and eating right are the only way to see a change.
Take progress pictures! It will be amazing to see how much your body changes over the weeks.
Change will not happen overnight! Don’t give up – if you work for it, you WILL get the results!!
