Reasons to Start Going to the Gym NOW

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

It’s a daily debate against ourselves if whether or not we should go to the gym that day. Our excuses are like we have too much schoolwork that’s due, so we don’t have time. Or we’re having too great of a hair day to ruin it by a sweat session at the rec center. Except, in reality of it all, that sweat session will make you feel better than having that one good hair day in the end. Here is why:

1. You’ll live a healthier and longer life

Studies show that fitting in at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, whether it be jogging, boxing, or Pilates, can lead to a longer life. Any exercise that will get your hear rate up and keep you moving will help you live a healthier and happier life.

2. You’ll feel more energized

When you’re first starting to exercise it may not seem this way, however, give yourself about ten minutes and you’ll start to feel the sweet successful burn. Almost immediately, and in the following days, you will realize that you have more energy to carry out your daily activities.

3. You will be more confident

We all have those days where, even thought we always try to eat fairly healthy, we feel bloated and not our best selves. But, if you are getting your daily dose of exercise each day and are eating healthy, you will notice a difference in yourself. You’d be more comfortable in your own skin, not to mention proud of your accomplishments at the gym.

4. You can bond with old friends or new

If you’re taking an exercise class, it is a great way to meet new people or bond with older friends. Classes such as Pilates and yoga are relaxing ways to do so, or if you want to let our your stress, we would suggest a cardio class like Zumba.

5. For the eye candy, of course

Let’s be honest ladies, although we are definitely hitting the gym for a good workout, it doesn’t hurt to have great biceps and abs walking around to motivate you to work harder.

6. To work off your stress

This is the most productive way that we know to relieve stress. Just sitting in front of my TV and watching my favorite chick flick doesn’t do the trick. Doing something proactive that will be beneficial for in the long run, such as exercising, will help work off all your stress.

7. Have time to think

If it’s mid-semester and you have a lot on your plate, besides the shower, the gym can be your best friend for prioritizing your life. It gives you enough time to think of what you need to accomplish and when you can do it.

8. Your body will thank you for it

Exercising is the best form of natural medicine that you can give your body. Your body is not just a trash can for your to put garbage in. Taking care of your body and what you put into it should be a main priority in everyone’s like.

Hello, my name is Lauren and I'm a Junior Marketing major at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.  I enjoy taking hikes, traveling, playing with animals, checking the latest fashions, and scrolling through Pinterest while enjoying my morning coffee.  My favorite movie has always been A Cinderella Story, specifically the original one with Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray.  In my spare time I'm usually reading a romantic novel, hanging out with friends, watching Netflix, or eating peanut butter by the spoonful.  Hope you enjoy my posts!
