3 Best Gluten Free Restaurants in Boise

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Boise State chapter.

When I was a sophomore in high school I was diagnozed with celiac disease, which prevents you from eating gluten.  Gluten, as some of you may or may not know, is a chemical found in wheat and wheat products. After so many years, I have discovered some amazing places in Boise to find some gluten free food.

I find myself missing pizza the most. I’ve discovered two places in Boise that I constantly crave because their gluten free pizza is the best I’ve ever had. Flatbread, found in Bown crossing and also on 8th and main, is my favorite place to go. They just opened the new downtown location with the opening of the Zion Bank building this past winter. They have some of the best gluten free pizza I’ve ever had. If you go between 11 and 4, you can get a mini pizza plus a salad for only 10 dollars. And, if you go after 10pm on the weekends, you can score a mini pizza for as low as five dollars, or try their gluten free fondue for 6 dollars, plus the 1.50 they add for gluten free.

The second place I’ve fallen in love with is 10 barrels. They have awesome beer, so I’m told, but being under 21 and also being celiac, I don’t go there for the beer. Their gluten free pizza is heavenly. They’re located on 10th and bannock, and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Their gluten free pizza is smaller than their other pizzas, so it’s the perfect individual size. Sometimes I have leftovers but most the time I eat the whole thing in one sitting, that’s how good it is.

The third and final amazing spot in Boise is somewhere that I’ve just recently discovered. It’s a Thai restaurant on 8th and Idaho called Mai Thai. Thai is something I avoid because of the gluten found in soy and teriyaki sauce. But, make sure you tell your server that you are gluten free, and they’ll whip up some special gluten free sauces that taste just as good as the regular sauces. I love their chicken rice bowls. It has yummy jasmine rice, baked chicken and vegetable stir fry in a spicy gluten free sauce. My mouth is watering at the thought.

If you are gluten free, or even if you aren’t, I highly recommend checking out these three restaurants. Who knows, maybe they’ll become your new favorite!
