Age: 21.

Major: Marketing.

Hometown: Boise!

Favorite Color: Orange.

Favorite Pattern: I love chevron… but lately I’ve been liking this pattern called Quatrefoil, I think its really cute and pretty:

HC Boise State: Tell us a little bit about where you are from and why you chose Boise State.

Hannah Barnett: I am actually from Boise but I spent my first year of college at the University of Montana. I transferred to Boise State after my freshman year for financial/family reasons. I also came here because I thought Boise State had a lot of really cool opportunities that I couldn’t find anywhere else. Plus I just love Boise: the town, the atmosphere, the people… I’m obsessed.

HC: What student organizations are you involved with on campus? Please explain your involvement.

HB: Oh boy… :) I am the co-president of an organization that I started last year called Chi Gamma. Chi Gamma is a Greek organization for transfer students who are in sororities or fraternities that aren’t here at Boise State. When I was in Montana, I became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Since Theta isn’t here on campus (yet…fingers crossed :) ), I created Chi Gamma with my friend Zach so that we could create a place for people in situations like ours.

I am also the treasurer for the Women’s Club Lacrosse Team. I’ve been playing lacrosse for 7 years now and I absolutely love it. Our team travels all around the northwest, playing teams from University of Idaho, Utah, and so on. We are actually hosting our first ever women’s lacrosse invitational in the spring so be on the lookout for that! I love playing lacrosse and my team is made up of some of the most incredible young women I have ever met! Last year we even won student organization of the year!

I am also a proud member of the (IN) Team and the new Day 7 Crew for Leadershape Grads. I have participated in events like Dance Marathon and Leadershape. I also work for the Student Involvement and Leadership Center so I spend a lot of time interacting with many different student organizations. I love seeing clubs develop and grow here on campus.

HC: Why do you get up in the morning? (What’s your #passion?)

HB: Haha I love this question! So basically I am passionate about passion. Its a weird way to phrase it but I think that seeing other people be passionate about something is so incredible. I love listening to people talk about something that they love. The way that their face lights up when they talk about what they love is truly magical. I want to help people find that feeling. I want to provide a space and a context for people to discover their purpose. Being able to do that for someone is the most rewarding experience I can imagine.

HC: What is your favorite fruit?

HB: Raspberries… They don’t even make it one day in my fridge.

HC: What is your favorite coffee beverage?

HB: I’m not too big of a coffee girl. I think it’s because hot drinks scare me. I live in fear of burning my tongue.. I hate that feeling! But I do like the candy-cane mocha at Dutch Bros… you can ask them to make it at the kids’ drinks temperature so it won’t burn your tongue.

HC: If you could do one thing (no limitations) what would it be? If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

HB: Transportation or Teleportation – not sure what it is called. I would love to be able to snap my fingers and be anywhere in the world. Plus then I could sleep in longer and snap myself to class.

HC: When are you set to graduate and where do you see yourself in 10 years?

HB: I will be graduating next spring (2015). I really don’t know where life will take me! I was a pre-med major in Montana and that forced me to have my life planned out like 15 years ahead. Now I am enjoying not knowing exactly what I will do for the first time. I’ve been toying with the idea of going to grad school to pursue a career in higher education and student affairs, but I also think it would be so cool to become a graphic designer… I guess I have some decisions to make.

HC: What are your tips for being a successful college student?

HB: I have four…

  1. Get outside the classroom – college is more than just books and tests.

  2. Get practical experience – internships are what will get you a job when you graduate.

  3. Get off your @$$ – the people who take action are the people that move ahead.

  4. Get over it! – Life goes on. “Breathe in, Breathe out, Move on.” – Jimmy Buffett

HC: Romance or comedy? Which genre of movie do you go to first?

HB: Comedy all the way. I love it when people can make me laugh. Plus I think romantic movies just set you up for an unrealistic view on relationships. Making out in the middle of an airport.. ew gross… stop doing that.

HC: How do you stay stress-free?

HB: Haha I dont…okay well I try my best. The one thing I have learned is that you need to know what recharges you. If you are an extrovert – hanging out with friends and being around people is a great way to let off steam and fill up your “gas tank.” Or if you are an introvert like me – know that you need to spend some time alone in order to feel refreshed. I know that if I am putting on a big event or spending a weekend working with students, I need some down time after to center myself.. and there is nothing wrong with that!
