10 Spring Break Must-Dos:
- Sleep!
- Relax. Seriously. I know everyone will do this anyways but… catch up on those TV episodes and shows you missed! But whether it’s Netflix, HBOGo, Hulu, or illegal internet sites (shhh…), SB is a fantastic time to relax while watching those shows you had to skip while studying during the semester.
- Read a book for fun! (Need inspiration? Check out this reading list from HC Bowdoin last year: http://www.hercampus.com/school/bowdoin/good-reads-spring-break)
- Going to the beach? Get that Vitamin D! It’s seriously lacking here in Maine, so when you’re in a sunnier locale, be sure to make the most of it.
- Whether or not you’re actually going to the beach, a tropical beverage is an easy (and delicious!) way to pretend you’re sunning yourself on the sand. Check out some recipes here: http://www.thespir.it/articles/cocktails-to-bring-to-the-beach/
- If you aren’t going to the beach, but want to tell people you did, use your two weeks to apply Jergens self-tanner and maybe get some highlights! You’ll look sun-kissed and beachy, even if you spent the whole time inside.
- Headed somewhere international? Before you go, learn a few phrases in the local language. You could pick practical, tourist-y things like “Where’s the airport?” or “How much does this cost?” OR you could teach yourself a few cheesy pick-up lines! (Look here for a few ideas: http://www.thebachelorguy.com/sex-around-the-world-cheesy-pickup-lines-in-every-language.html – I’m staying in the USA and I’m going to teach myself foreign language pick up lines anyways!!)
- Try new food! Whether you have access to a kitchen and want to cook or you want to try out a new restaurant, explore some of the more interesting food options in whatever locale you’re visiting, whether you’re at home or far away. (If you’re cooking, this is a fantastic blog: http://smittenkitchen.com/ )
- Go to a concert! Some lucky folks have music festivals as their spring break destinations, but even if you’re not going to sweat it out at Ultra, every city has some cool music venues. Look up events online and you too can enjoy an evening of fist pumping and hip shaking!
- Start a blog! Have a spa day (or go to a spa)! Redecorate your room! Donate old clothes to Goodwill! Hang out with your mom! Read fashion blogs! Get new music! Go to a museum! Go to a themed club! Basically, just have a freakin’ fantastic time. We all work so hard here at Bowdoin, even just staying healthy can be a chore! We get two weeks to take a break and live it up- so go on out and have some fun!
