Enjoy Ivies in Style!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bowdoin chapter.

Oh Ivies, how I’ve waited for you! It’s something like the NESCAC pseudo-version of Coachella– without the creepy Tupac hologram. But all resurrections of the greatest rapper aside, Ivies is definitely the most anticipated musical event of the year at Bowdoin. And what better way to celebrate this occasion than dressing for spring (finally)? My boyfriend contends that no one is paying attention to your clothes over this weekend, however, as shown by street style photos from music festivals like Coachella, trademark personal style does not just dissipate after indulging in a few libations.

RacerX: Who doesn’t love 80’s cover bands? Especially when the band is composed of your professors in atrocious wigs? RacerX is the official kick-off to Ivies and in order to properly enjoy it, you must be dressed in outfits dominated by neon colors.

While most people prefer to pay homage to the 80’s through combination of bike shorts and tank tops, I thought it would be fun to offer a more sexy option. This body-hugging neon green dress pairs well with a jean jacket, sandals, a side ponytail (with the mandatory scrunchie), and an obscene amount of bangles.

Brunswick Apartments: Rumor has it that Bowdoin flies out the eldery woman who lives in Brunswick Apartments so she can avoid the mayhem that is the Brunswick Quad. This event is during the day and definitely one of the more casual events during Ivies. As such, a tank top, dip-dye shorts and chucks are appropriate.

The Concert: Without a doubt this is the highlight of the Ivies experience. Taking place on Whittier Field, the concert resembles a major music festival with three acts that represent a cross-section of campus’ musical preferences. While it hasn’t rained during the concert since 2004, this year’s weather seems to be shaping up to be, most unfortunately, in the 50s. Hopefully Mother Nature gets her act together so we all don’t freeze.

My personal preference for in-between weather are maxi-dresses because it allows you to look summery without feeling the cold. In order to make it more casual I paired it with a crop top, a white chambray shirt and flats.

Enjoy the weekend in style- Happy Ivies!
