Towards the end of my sophomore year, one of my good friends, Yaritza Pena of BossCityVogue, suddenly had an arsenal of really cute accessories. These awesome accessories included a Hello Kitty headband, a pair sneaks with Hello Kitty bows all over them and a ring in the shape of a gun that had been blinged out with a multi-colored rhinestones on.  When I asked her where she got all these awesome accessories, she told me that she had been making them. Who knew that procrastination could beget so much creativity? Below I have three D.I. Y tutorials for you, ranging from beauty to fashion.

D.I.Y. Hair Chalking- Dip-dye ends have been all the rage this season, inspired by Lauren Conrad’s recent soft pink tips. While this style is definitely eye-catching and fashion forward, it is also a huge time commitment if you dye your ends. And time is something that we all know we don’t have much of. As such, a whole crop of D.I.Y hair chalking tutorials has cropped all over the Internet. Hair chalking is a quick, cheap and innovative alternative to dying your ends using soft oil pastels. While most would assume that chalking would only work on blonde hair, it works on dark hair as well, lasting for one shampoo. The pastels seem to work best if the hair is damp as well.  The tutorial I have selected is a step-by-step text one, but if you need visual clues there are some YouTube tutorials as well.

D.I.Y Handmade tissue paper flowers-  We all can’t be Martha Stewart, but we sure can try. That is the purpose of this decoration tutorial. While most people have had their decorations up since the second day of classes, it never hurts to add a little oomph to your room mid –way through the year. Given the impeding doom we have upon us, I mean the month of December; it always helps to have a bright and happy room to go back to at 1:30 am in the morning after H&L closes. And tissue paper flowers can definitely do that. Tissue paper flowers can be made in a variety of colors shapes and sizes and can be hung from either the wall or the ceiling.

D.I.Y bracelet – Friendship bracelets have cropped up all over the place and on everyone’s arms, including yours. And the more the better. However, if you want to switch up your style and add more bracelets to your collection, then you should follow these tutorials show how to make wrap bracelets, rope bracelets and woven chain bracelets. While there is no one specific ‘high fashion’ inspiration for the wrap bracelet, the rope bracelet stems from Minsai’s bracelet collection (which at 95 per bracelet, I think I’ll stay away from) and the woven chain bracelet is influenced by Aurelie Bidermann’s Do Brazil collection. Given that there are three different types of bracelets to choose from, you can definitely find one that complements your style and the five other bracelets you have on your arms.
