Like many readers, I have a running list of things I’d like to do in my spare time this summer.
- Check out the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History
- Write a piece to submit to Thought Catalog
- Apply to my abroad program
- Try my hand at scriptwriting
- Explore the local bike path
- Manicure?
Yup, I sure know what I would like to get done… but knowing when I will actually have free time? That’s another story.
Luckily, recent Bowdoin alums Houston Kraft, Ben Johnson, and Nathan Merritt have come up with an app with a quick fix to my particular conundrum. The app, called “Free Time” uses your phone calendar to tell you what times you are free, and then allows you to share those times with your friends.
Say goodbye to those awkward FB threads about the best day to go to Little Tokyo. Suddenly, the blank spaces between items on your calendar become windows of opportunity to pedal with a cute date or pen the next “Hamlet.”
Kraft, Johnson, and Merritt have enjoyed quick success with their app. iTunes named it among “New and Noteworthy” apps within its first week on the market.
In about 10 days Free Time has had 130,000 downloads and feedback to the creators has been invaluable as they work to develop Free Time 1.1—hopefully to be released within the next couple of weeks.
So summon some free time the good old fashioned way to support these Polar Bear entrepreneurs! One click, and you’ll never have to scramble to schedule again.
