Sometimes working in the winter seems especially treacherous. Is it fair that we have to do 300 pages of reading or a lengthy problem set when we’ve just trudged through 2 feet of snow? Isn’t that work enough? When all else seems to fail, music can be the perfect remedy for winter work woes (and a great substitute for “study drugs”!).
While sitting in our dorm rooms, or at a desk in the library during the cold months, Vampire Weekend can warm the soul. John Mayer’s soothing voice does an excellent job of lightening the mood, and Fleet Foxes’ sweet harmonies perfectly complement a snowy view. Sometimes we need a glimpse into the warmer future: ‘California’ by Phantom Planet and any beachy jam by Kooks do the trick.
We don’t want anything too slow (napping becomes too inviting of a prospect), but instead just a little something to stay relaxed, focused, and ready for any winter project. Now no storm is too big, and no paper is too long!
