February is a great time to celebrate your love for a partner, friends, or even yourself. I love music, I feel as though it amplifies all of life’s experiences and is such a beautiful form of art. Although there isn’t a set “Valentine’s Day playlist” like there is for Christmas, you can still jam out to some amazing love (or anti-love) songs to get in the Valentine’s mood. Here are some of my favorites!
“Sara SMile” Hall & Oates
Although this song was released in 1975, it is still an amazing love song that is meaningful and sweet rather than cheesy. The song truly represents Hall’s love for his girlfriend, Sara. This song will give you all of the ’70s vibes while also being super sweet.
“BOund 2” Kanye West
Although “Kimye” was completely toxic, I, personally, am still mourning over this iconic relationship. This song depicts Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s early love. The music is amazing, but the video is also a work of art in itself.
“We Are Never Getting Back Together” Taylor Swift
If you are spiteful towards Valentine’s day, or love in general, this song is for you. Scream this in your car alone or with friends to get out all of those lovey-dovey feelings.
“Best Part” Daniel CAesar and H.E.R.
The beautiful combination of both Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.’s voices opts for the perfect, romantic, R&B song. This song is perfect to embrace the beauty of love and finding someone who brings out the good in every day.
“After The Storm” Kali Uchis and Tyler The Creator
This song is a groovy, funky, self-love anthem that makes you embrace the ups and downs that come with life. This song is perfect for Valentine’s because it is a gentle reminder to love yourself and that things will get better no matter what situation you are in.
“My Kind of Woman” Mac Demarco
“My kind of woman” represents someone who stands by your side through everything. Even though your love isn’t perfect, it is perfect for each of you. Mac Demarco does an amazing job of using different instrumentals and vocals to create a nostalgic feel to a possible past love.
“Girls” Girl In Red
This song, and girl in red in general, breaks heteronormative relationship stereotypes. “Girls” perfectly demonstrates the saying, “love is love”. No matter what your sexuality is, this song is a bop.
“I Hate u” SZA
“I Hate U” is the perfect ode to a toxic relationship. This is the perfect Valentine’s song to listen to right after you dump your crappy significant other (who you were definitely too good for).
“Thinkin bout You” Frank Ocean
Frank Ocean demonstrates love and its surrounding doubts beautifully in “Thinkin Bout You”. This song reminds me of new love and being unsure about the situation.
“Crazy In love” Beyoncé and Jay-Z
No matter what your relationship status is, this song will always be iconic for 2000’s kids. This song is perfect to jam out to with friends, significant others, or even just yourself, it’s that good.
