We all love Friendsgiving! Whether it be because of the time you get to spend with some of your best friends, you get to enjoy the best comfort foods without prying questions from those family members, or because Friendsgiving is a holiday you can celebrate that doesn’t originate from the genocide of native people (we’ll get into that in a later article). No matter the reason, Friendsgiving is a great excuse to pig out above all! Here are some of my favorite side dishes:
- Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
-
This one is a classic. Warm, buttery, smooth mashed potatoes smothered in rich, savory gravy. What’s not to like?
- Green Bean Casserole
-
I remember steering clear of this side when I was a kid, but now I can’t get enough of it. What’s not to like about creamy green beans topped with crunchy fried onions? If only I could tell younger me what I know now.
- Dinner Rolls
-
Everyone loves a good carb. Especially when it’s fluffy, beautifully browned dinner rolls smothered in honey cinnamon butter. There’s not much else to say on this one, it speaks for itself!
- Devilled Eggs
-
Despite their wicked name, this side can be pretty great when done right! Rich eggy filling with a hint of mustard and topped with warming paprika, admittedly this side might taste better without a description.
- Mac & Cheese
-
We all have that one friend that makes the BEST macaroni and cheese. Whether it’s finished off in the oven until the cheese is a crisp golden brown, or if it’s better served right out of the pot, macaroni and cheese is always a crowd pleaser.
- Sweet Potato Casserole
-
I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a fan of sweet potatoes myself, but I know a few friends that would kill me (metaphorically, hopefully) if I didn’t include it on the list. I will say, I’m a big fan of the melted marshmallows on top of this side.
- Stuffing
-
This one may be my personal favorite. I’m absolutely obsessed with this side. It’s so warm and comforting and when it’s done well, it really brings it home that it’s the holidays.
No matter what your favorite side is though, I think we can all agree that Friendsgiving is one of the most emotionally (and physically) fulfilling times of the holidays.
