Happy April Falcons! We have officially hit the homestretch, there is only 3 weeks of classes left until summer break! This time of the semester can be stressful, so it is important to prioritize yourself and your mental health. One way that helps me during this point of the semester is finding fun ways to spend my time outside of classes. I took the liberty of reading through BG’s event calendar and will be sharing my findings with you all!
01. Student Film Fest
One of my favorite ways to destress is watching TV/movies. The struggle of picking what to watch, however, can be quite stress-inducing. Luckily BG’s Department of Theater and Film has that covered with a line-up of student-made films. It is an event that is absolutely free to attend in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union’s (BTSU) Theater (Room 206). This is a multi-day event, taking place March 31st (7pm-10pm), April 1st (10am-6pm), April 2nd (6pm-8pm). This is a great way to destress while supporting other BG students!!

02. free sessions at the rec
Another great way to destress and unwind is through exercise! Luckily, we have the Rec at our disposal! Along with the various pieces of equipment available for use, the Recreation and Wellness team hosts various sessions lead by instructors. There are many different classes that you can take if you have a GroupX membership, but the one I found is free! This session leads participants through stretches and breathing to encourage relaxation. It is described as a low-impact movement class and free for anyone to enjoy! These sessions are held every Tuesday (until April 18th) from 9:00am to 9:45am in Studio B at the Rec Center!

03. Falcons After Dark
Falcons After Dark (FAD) is a series of events that are hosted on Friday nights by Student Engagement at BGSU. An opportunity that looks exciting is an event titled “Inner Child Night.” The events calendar described a night filled with various activities that are sure to appeal to anyone who attends! There will be crafts, games, throwback snacks, a movie, and more. You can bring out your inner child with Student Engagement on April 7th from 7pm to 9pm in the BTSU Theater and Skybank Room!

04. Senior Week
A very fun tradition BG has during the last week of classes is celebrating our seniors with a week entitled “Senior Week.” During this week, falcons have plenty of opportunities to celebrate the year and the seniors through these campus-hosted events. This year’s lineup includes: Kick-Back on the Quad, Pancakes with the President, Falcon Finale, and a Sunset Movie at the Doyt.
The first event, Kick-Back on the Quad, is a week long event where you are encouraged to bring your friends to the Bowen-Thompson Quad for music, fire pits, giant yard games, and drinks. This event will be active April 17th-April 21st from 2pm to 7pm.
Another event occurring in the Quad is Pancakes with the President. On April 17th from 5pm to 7pm, our very own President Rodney Rogers will be hanging out ready to chat and eat pancakes. This is a fun way to say goodbye to Mr. Rogers before graduation and reflect on your time at BGSU.
Falcon Finale is an event being hosted in (you guessed it) the Quad. This finale is a night designed to celebrate the end of the year with various fun activities such as inflatables, food, carnival activities, and more! This event is being hosted April 18th from 6pm to 8pm!
The final event of the week is the Sunset Movie at Doyt Perry Stadium. Here, the school will host a showing of a fan-voted movie (TBD) on the big screens in the stadium while also watching the sunset. There will also be free popcorn and drinks. The event is planned as 8:00pm to 10:30pm, but the website advises students to arrive early to get the perfect pictures on the hill!

05. Bloomfest
The final event I found is something called “Bloomfest”. Bloomfest is a music festival that is being hosted right here on campus as a collaboration between the Music Industry Club (MIC) and the Environmental Action Group (EAG). This festival takes place on the University Hall lawn from 5pm to 9pm and features a lineup of four artists/groups. The lineup is: Post Sex Nachos, Detention, People in the Daytime, and Tree No Leaves. Along with these performances, the festival will also have a raffle, games, fire pits, and food! This is a great way to support BG students as well as local artists (proceeds from the raffle go towards the Black Swamp Conservancy) and can be a fun opportunity to take your mind off of classes for a few hours.

I hope this article helped you think of some ways to destress during our last month of the semester! Have a wonderful and safe summer!
