With the second semester approaching, so are the icebreakers and repeated “get to know you” activities. If you are anything like me, you can’t think of anything worse than being asked to share a fun fact about yourself in a room full of strangers.

I used to dread the first day of school. Growing up I was incredibly shy, so the thought of introducing myself to a classroom of people made me nauseous. When I got to college, I relaxed, thinking the ice breakers were over. It turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong. To make matters even worse, they sometimes will ask the fun fact questions in INTERVIEWS.
With that, I realized that the fear of fun facts is something I need to get over. In the past couple of years, I have learned that it doesn’t always have to be that bad.
Everyone has special qualities and stories that make them who they are, and that is something worth sharing. However, that doesn’t take away the panic that comes with the dreaded “tell us something fun about yourself” statements.
If you need help preparing some fun facts to have in your back pocket, here are a couple of generic ones you can twist to make your own.

- The biggest risk I’ve taken was…

- I can quote most of the movie…
- I have broken [this many] bones
- I have met [celebrity].
- I share the same birthday as… (celebrity, family member, etc.)
- My favorite food is…
- I can/ can’t do the worm.
- I wear contacts/ glasses.
- I won [this superlative] in high school (I personally would not use this one, because I won most accident prone…)
- My favorite thing to cook is…
- My biggest fear is…
- I collect/ I used to collect…
- I once won (concert tickets, costume contest, spelling bee, etc.)
If there is anything to take away from this article; just be creative! People love to laugh, and if all else fails just make a joke. Fun facts don’t have to be difficult! Here’s to a great start to next semester, with all of the fun facts you have to offer.
