Taylor’s Favorite College Snack: Yogurt Bowls!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bowling Green chapter.

I have always been a picky eater, so I’ve been trying to expand my pallet and add fruits to what I eat. As someone who loves smoothies, I looked to the ingredients that I liked in those to create my favorite snack to have after a long day of classes and homework: yogurt bowls!

I create a base of plain or Vanilla Greek yogurt, which is good for the immune system and increases gut microbiota. If your yogurt has separated, mix it with a spoon before adding it to a bowl to recombine it. Next, I plop on some peanut butter, which is high in vitamin E, magnesium, iron, selenium, and vitamin B6. I include Nutella too for its chocolatey, hazelnut flavor. I always slice up a banana because that’s my favorite fruit. It adds potassium and another texture to the bowl. Additionally, I include whatever berries that are handy in my fridge, such as blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries. Berries promote a healthy gut and contain numerous vitamins. My last steps are topping the bowl with energizing, cholesterol-improving honey and antioxidant, anti-inflammatory cinnamon. You could mix the ingredients with a spoon before eating it, but I like to leave it as is.

Other ingredients you could add are acai, chocolate chips, coconut, granola, mango, nuts, kiwi, etc; the proportions of toppings depend on your preferences. Also, you could alter the flavor or type of yogurt that’s used as the base of the snack. Everything I include in mine is affordable and easy to find at local grocery stores.

Yogurt bowls are a tasty snack that could have health benefits depending on what toppings you opt to add, inspired by smoothie ingredients and sundae construction. The customizability is what makes this snack so fun to make!
