Looking for some unique and bizarre movies to spice up your Halloween watch list? Look no further, move over Hocus Pocus, because this list contains everything from comedy to horror.
“Urban Legends: Final CUt”
Now I will be the first to admit that this movie is far from good, but it is very entertaining. “Urban Legends: Final Cut” is the second movie in the “Urban Legends” trilogy, but it’s the best one. This movie follows Amy Mayfield, a college film student who is working on her thesis film. Her film ironically follows a similar plot to the first movie (which I also recommend if you have the time), and in the process of filming, her and her friends are killed off one-by-one by a murderer who kills using urban legends. This movie is a funny to watch because who wouldn’t laugh at lines like, “You’re scared of miners? That’s weak sauce man”?
“Season of the witch”
“Season of the Witch” also known as “Hungry Wives” is more of an artsy period piece. It shares more abstract ideas while also critiquing gender roles at the same time. This movie is full of witchcraft and drama, and the last few scenes are just something else. Overall, this movie has more to it than what meets the eye, and is definitely worth a watch.
“the Stepford wives” (1975)
“The Stepford Wives” (1975) is far from a Halloween movie, but it will definitely get you in the Halloween, fall-time spirit. Joanna and her family move from the bustling city of New York to the small town of Stepford. Everything seems fine until Joanna and her friend start to become suspicious of what’s really going on in the town of Stepford. This movie is an interesting watch, especially if you like psychological thrillers.
“The faculty”
When high school couldn’t seem to get any worse, now there’s aliens! This movie also isn’t technically a Halloween movie, but it has its creepy parts. This movie really keeps you on the end of your seat. Even though the plot-twist is kind of predictable, it still is interesting.
“Wallace & gromit: the curse of the were-rabbit”
This movie is a wave of nostalgia, well for me at least. You can never go wrong with some classic “Wallace and Gromit,” and if stop-motion scares you, this is the perfect horror movie. Actually though, I feel like this movie is on the lighter side of some of the films on this list, but it is the perfect amount of fun and spooky vibes. Also, if you want to watch something on the shorter side, “Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers,” is always a great option and is only around 30 minutes long.
“Life after Beth”
In the process of mourning his girlfriend’s death, Zach stops by her parents’ house where he finds out she isn’t actually dead. Besides having to keep Beth and her death a secret, everything seems perfect. Things start to spiral out of control though, leaving Zach to decide what is really important, death or Beth. This movie is really a ride. Also, if you’re a fan of “Criminal Minds,” actor Matthew Gray Gubler appears in this movie. If any of these things interest you, definitely give this a watch.
“Paranorman”
“Paranorman” is about a kid named Norman who can talk to dead people. He has to stop a witch’s curse on the town before a zombie apocalypse takes place. Every character in this movie is so well-developed, and you can really tell how much work was put into this movie. Even if you aren’t a fan of stop-motion movies, this movie is truly wholesome. It’s a great movie to add to your Halloween watchlist.
“chopping mall”
Killer mall robots?! This movie is so camp, and is so ridiculous. It is nothing but entertaining. I will admit the movie does start a bit slow, but you need to watch the whole thing. Trust me! It’s cheesy and it’s silly, but that’s exactly how 1980’s slashers should be.
“fun-sizE”
This movie is probably the least terrifying movie of the bunch, unless losing your brother on Halloween night sounds terrifying to you. This movie follows Wren and her friends going on a crazy adventure, while looking for her brother on Halloween night. This movie is funny, has romance, and takes place on Halloween night. How could it get any better?
“KIller Klowns from outer space”
“Killer Klowns from Outer Space” is nothing but iconic! What is better than alien clowns coming to earth and putting their human prey into cotton candy cocoons? NOTHING! That’s the answer. This movie is full of fun and is the perfect movie to watch this Halloween (unless you’re scared of clowns, of course).
