With Black History Month underway, there’s no better way to celebrate than with music. Black history started and still lives on through music and has deep roots in all genres. Here is a list of artists you should consider adding to your playlist.
1. Musiq soulchild
Musiq Souldchild is an early 2000’s artist. His music is generally associated with Neo-soul. Songs like “Halfcrazy,” “Love” and “Girl Next Door” are a must when relaxing after a long day.
2. India.arie
Similar to Musiq Soulchild, India.Arie debuted in the early 2000’s as well. She’s another Neo-soul artist with a hint of funk. Her entire album “Acoustic Soul” features hits geared towards healthy love with oneself, partner and community.

Trina could be the mother of new age female rap. She started the wave of women taking back their sexualities and putting them out there to the public. She’s the best to listen to when tapping into hardcore feminine energy. Example songs are “Hot Commodity,” “You Ain’t Nothing” and “Clear It Out.”
6. Jill scott
Becoming popular in the 2000’s, Jill Scott is a sweet vibe to listen to. Her voice is beautiful and smooth with a mix of Neo-soul and 70’s funk. With songs like “Crown Royal,” “Golden” and “Hate On Me,” she’ll empower you on a more relaxed level.
