Summer is officially over! After watching 37 new movies this summer, here are my top five. Now, I know 37 isn’t that many movies, but in my defense, it was a busy summer for me. Also, you can click the link here for the complete ranked list on Letterboxd.
1.) “Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse”
I actually went up and visited one of my online friends of seven years to see this movie, which makes this movie such a memorable experience. “Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse” are such innovative, animated movies. Everything about this movie is just so good from its style to its character design to its plot.
2.) “drop dead gorgeous”
If I could use one word to describe this movie it would be wacky. I actually wanted to rewatch this movie before reviewing it here but, unfortunately, you currently can’t stream it anywhere. That being said, I couldn’t recommend it more. It’s unpredictable, it’s funny and it’s a movie that β once it becomes available on streaming services β everyone should check out.
3.) “The Squid and the Whale”
“The Squid and the Whale” is a movie that I did enjoy; however, there are still parts I don’t understand. An example of this is the plot line with the younger son. He does some stuff I’d rather not type out, and I honestly don’t think it was needed in the story. I certainly found it a bit gross. Besides that, I found this movie very interesting, and a movie I can’t wait to watch it again.
4.) “Pearl”
“NO, I’M A STAR! PLEASE, I’M A STAR!” Pearl is an icon, a girl boss. The movie “Pearl” has a certain charm to it that I find is hard to find in modern horror movies. Now this movie is a prequel to “X” which is another movie I saw this summer, but “X” doesn’t even compare to “Pearl.” I reference this movie way too much. It has even made its way into my constant rewatch list. This movie does have some problems, but I still love it.
5.) “No hard feelings”
This was the first movie I had ever been carded at, which surprised me because this was far from my first R-rated movie in theaters. Rightfully so though, considering there’s a whole scene where Jennifer Lawrence’s boobs were out. I loved this movie so much, and it was so entertaining. It was awkward in the best ways possible. I can’t wait to buy this movie and add it to my DVD collection.
