5 Awesome Jobs Brandeisians Have

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

These five young women have managed to get some awesome jobs while being students at the same time.  Looking for inspiration? Look no further.  These ladies are all the inspiration you need and love what they do.

1. Rebecca Wiser (Sophmore)

“I’m a marketing associate for PMS Bites, delicious snacks designed specifically for women when they are PMSing.  Bites contain dandelion root, Siberian ginseng, and chamomile — herbs known to reduce PMS symptoms like bloating and cramping. I saw the company featured on Shark Tank and absolutely loved the idea and reached out to CEO (or “She-e-o”).  I manage social media, write blog posts, reach out to potential affiliates, and create newsletters.”

2. Heather DeNoble (Junior)

“I’m an after school program teacher at a local PreK-6 private school.  I do lots of different things there.  I help set up and clean up all of the toys, I play lots of different games with the kids, I supervise them on the playground and in the gym, and do crafts with them.  I got the job in my midyear semester when I interned in the kindergarten classroom at the school, and started working in the after school program at the same time.  I like it because I want to be an elementary school teacher, so I love the chance to get to work with the kids!”

3. Nicole Famiglietti (Junior)

“My two jobs on campus are a sales associate at the bookstore and a sports medicine assistant at Gosman in the athletic training room.  I have been working at the bookstore for over a year. At the bookstore, I work in the front of the store assisting customers  ringing up purchases, stocking the sales floor, helping people find books. I also work in the back/text area of the store.  I help stock the shelves with the books for each semester as well as shipping books we no longer need back to publishers/other stores.  I really enjoy the bookstore because I get to work with a lot of really cool people.  Also, I really like that I get to interact with and meet a lot of people on campus.  I just recently got the job at Gosman.  My general role is to assist the athletic trainers in helping and treating the student athletes as well as helping the student athletes in any way that I can.  I help with general upkeep of the training room (stocking towels/tape and cleaning etc.).  I help prepare water coolers and supplies needed for the trainers and athletes for their games as well as practices.  I also attend games with the trainers so that we are available if anyone needs any medical attention.  I was interested in the sports medicine assistant job because I am on the pre-health track and am interested in exploring aspects of the medical field outside of the typical hospital setting (I also have my EMT license).  I am interested in sports medicine and this job just seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to experience what it would be like to work as an athletic trainer.  I really enjoy the sports medicine job because I get to work with some really great people and also get to watch a lot of the athletic competitions.”

4. Lauren Puglisi (Sophmore)

“I am a tour guide for The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University along with eleven other students.  A lot of training goes into being a guide. To be exact two hours every week for one year!  I love the job so much though it honestly doesn’t feel like work.  My favorite part of the work is my fellow guides.  They are wonderfully enthusiastic people who challenge me to look at art (and life) in different ways.  It’s also wonderful to set aside time every week for art. I feel like it helps me appreciate the beautiful things in life.”

5. Victoria Sharaga (First-year)

“I’m a teacher’s assistant at Lemberg Children’s Center and my job is to work under and help out the head teacher in my classroom!  I help out with cleaning, activity, and meal preparation, but of course I also get to play and interact with the children as they go about their day whether that be on the playground, during group time activities, through reading them a story, or chatting with them during lunch.  I really just love spending time with the children and getting to know each one, but also the other TAs and staff are super friendly and knowledgeable!  It’s just such a pleasant and positive environment for everyone.  I also love how safe and diverse the community is; many of the children and staff have different backgrounds and some even speak multiple languages.  I’m so happy to be working there because I plan to work with children when I’m older, so it’s a wonderful experience.”

I am a first-year at Brandeis University. I'm from New York City and am experiencing city withdrawal. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends, sewing, watching netflix, doing musical theater, and eating lots and lots of mac and cheese.
