The serving of Hamantaschen is one of those weird Jewish traditions that are hard to explain. Basically, the story goes that an anti-Semitic guy named Haman tried and failed to kill all of the Jews in his kingdom, so we eat a dessert based on the shape of his hat. It’s a strange concept for a holiday dish.
That being said, Hamantaschen is a relatively easy-to-make dessert that leaves room for innovation and experimentation. You can fill them with almost anything, creating a sweet dessert or a savory appetizer.Â
For this list, I’ve organized nine Hamantaschen recipes into fruity, sweet, and savory options that will keep the Purim spirit alive even after the holiday has passed.Â
