This year with the new Usdan renovations came two amazing nutrition professionals. Karen Jew, a Registered Dietitian, and Laura Klotz who will be assisting Karen at Brandeis. Her Campus had a chance to chat with them and talk about their hopes for a partnership this coming year. We have a lot of exciting events in the works with them and we look forward to what should be a great partnership. These will not be events you will want to miss so make sure you check back here and see what is coming up!Â
Every week Laura will be tabling in Usdan for different topics to help make our student body more aware of the healthy options on campus. This past Wednesday, Laura tabled in Usdan to give out information about Sodexo’s Mindful program.
Mindful by Sodexo is a program currently implemented on our campus. For those of you who are dying to find those healthy choices in the dining halls, here is your solution: look for the Mindful apple symbol. All the menu options at Usdan and Sherman dining halls that meet Mindful nutrient criteria will have an apple icon next to them. The great thing about Mindful is that it is not a diet! You do not cut out carbs and go on a juice cleanse. Mindful teaches you how to enjoy those pleasures like pasta, desserts and those meat dishes you love when your mom makes them in a healthy way.So next time you go into Usdan or Sherman looking for a healthy lunch, look for the apple and know you will be getting a nutritious and delicious meal. If you live off campus and want to check out some recipes you can make on your own, check out this link.
Next week on September 24th, Laura will be tabling in Usdan and Sherman during lunch and dinner time with more exciting nutrition information to give you! Make sure you stop by to find out more about whole grains! She will be able to tell you what they are and where you can find them in our campus dining halls. If you have any questions about the Mindful program or want to talk to Laura or Karen, feel free to email them! Her Campus Brandeis is really looking forward to providing our campus with nutrition information and help on navigating the dining halls.Â
