Her Campus: Why did you decide to go to Brandeis?Amy Wu: What drew me in was the business program offered at Brandeis. All the business professors are experts in their fields. Besides that, I preferred to live on a small campus and I like how Brandeis is close to the city. Also, I thought it was cool that we have a castle on campus and the people I met while I toured campus were extremely nice.
HC: How did you first get involved with Her Campus?AW: I read an article on HC Brandeis about how to pack for school before I arrived on campus since I had to haul several suitcases all the way from GA.  Since I was interested in reading someone else’s article on the site, I thought, “Why not write on similar topics that haven’t been mentioned yet?” Also, I was fascinated by the history of HC: how it started with 3 girls at Harvard.  I can relate to that because it was a small idea developed by college students and grew into a business that is now at colleges all across America.
HC: What else are you involved in on campus?AW: On campus, most of my time is focused on academics because I just added on another major (Comp Sci) and it’s a huge change to adjust to. I attend various student clubs and take hold of opportunities through those clubs. Definitely sign up for listservs for clubs you have a passion for, or talk with people about your interests, because there is a high chance they will know of an event coming up that pertains to your interests. For example, I’ve been able to attend events through clubs on campus: the MIT Maker Fair through 3D printing club, Babson Investment Forum through investment club, and Harvard Women in Business conference through WINC and College Fashion Week through Her Campus! Recently, I’ve been asked to help out with budgeting and registration for Boston ECAASU 2015, which you should all go to! I’ve also been involved with Women’s Lunch Place since Freshmen year when I was a volunteer and now my Marketing Research business group is conducting a survey to help them understand their volunteers better. There are so many different ways of getting involved both on and off campus.
HC: Why do you write for Her Campus?AW: I first got involved when I sent an article to the coordinator last year while I was on a bus back from NY. It was my third time back and I felt I knew how to introduce NYC to someone going there for the first time. HC is a great platform for writing because online content is accessible by most college students. I have friends coming to Boston for college and they read my articles even though they don’t go to Brandeis-it’s a great feeling to appeal to collegiates! I’ve always wanted to blog and write about travelling and this is my chance to do that. Besides travel and places to see near Brandeis, I write about cultural events that must be remembered in Brandeis history. I recently attended Night For Africa and the amazing talents of Brandeisians blew me away.
HC: What is your favorite part about Brandeis?AW: The people. I’m always learning something new in my classes from professors and from students. I feel we have a great environment where we can all learn from each other.
HC: What is something you wish you could’ve done at campus that you ended up not doing?AW: I wish I took advantage of cross registration courses at other colleges nearby. I still have senior year though!
HC: If you could say something to your freshman self what would it be?AW: Have no regrets! I had an amazing freshman year and you should too! I checked out different clubs on campus- I’m still doing that as a sophomore, the clubs list is endless! I made academics my top priority by taking classes that challenged me and not just for that easy A. Remember to explore different classes (I loved my anthropology course and considering a minor in Anthro!). Another great piece of advice is freshmen need to explore Boston and all that the Boston area has to offer! Check out my other articles for ideas :)
HC: What do you want to do after Brandeis?AW: My current plan is to get into a study abroad program for next academic year, travel Europe while abroad, finish senior year, then enter the real world.
