In 1991, the Navarasa Dance Theater was founded by acclaimed dancer and
choreographer Aparna Sindhoor in Mysore, India. The Navarasa Dance Theater is a modern dance theater company, inspired by Indian classical and folk dance forms. It is well known for encompassing universal themes dealing with humanity. The Navarasa Dance Theater has toured internationally with critical acclaim at theater and dance festivals throughout North America, India, and Europe.

The Navarasa Dance Theater’s latest production“Encounter” is directed by Aparna Sindhoor and Anil Natyaveda. Encounter is a dance-theater based on a Bengali short story written by Mahasweta Devi. Encounter is an evening length’s work of contemporary dance theater addressing issues of exclusion and military violence. It explores various kinds of encounters -with the Divine, Self, and Love. The encounters are presented with stylistic Indian dance, martial arts, and innovative choreography, with music ranging from contemporary, modern, classical to folk.  This concert concludes Navarasa’s Intercultural Residency Series at Brandeis University.
