The 56th annual Grammy awards took place last Sunday and while our ears were focused on the music, our eyes were captivated by the red carpet fashion — both the hits and the misses. Here is our take on the some of the looks.
Katy Perry in Maison Valentino
At first glance, I did not fully appreciate musical notes on a dress destined for a music awards show. However, there’s no denying that Katy stands out in just the right way, pulling off a complicated and unusual dress with undeniable star power. With flawless hair and makeup to boot, there’s no denying her the title of Teenage Dream.
Rita Ora in Lanvin
One of the only short dresses on the red carpet that night, Rita Ora pulled off a metallic green number without blinking an eye. Although a different interpretation of “formal”, Rita’s dress was undeniably a perfect complement to her blonde ‘do and nude lip.
Taylor Swift in Gucci
It’s safe to say that Taylor could wear a paper bag and pull it off, so in Gucci she was undeniably one of the best dressed of the night. Her gold column gown was a little safe for girl that could try anything, but she kept it classy and chic for music’s biggest night.
Beyoncé in Michael Costello Couture
There’s just nothing to say. All hail the queen. Beyoncé looked stunning in a mermaid style couture gown, even her makeup perfect despite the superstar performance she gave earlier in the night.
Sarah Hyland in Emilio Pucci
Sarah embodied the class of the Grammy’s in a short and sweet black and white dress. She kept it fun with bows on the shoulders, but chic with strappy heels and a black clutch. Overall, the perfect combination of elegant and relaxed.
Iggy Azalea in Elie Saab
Iggy Azalea’s dress might have been my favorite of the night. The white lace gown was the perfect combination of formal without trying too hard, and accentuated both Iggy’s skin and her luminescent hair. She looked positively mystical with a nude lip and slicked back hair.
Chrissy Teigen in Johanna Johnson & John Legend in Gucci
Chrissy Teigen looked like a well-toned disco ball in her reflective, strapless gown. While there’s no denying she was looking good, nothing about this dress is unique or particularly classy, as I can’t imagine how many times she had to hoist that dress up throughout the night. John Legend’s classic tux was the perfect complement to Chrissy’s overwhelming ensemble.
Zendaya in Emanuel Ungaro
Someone needs to remind Zendaya that she is only seventeen years old. But even if she was twenty-five, I can’t imagine enjoying her blue-black-sheer-pocketed-collared-button down dress. Yes, she stood out, and yes, she looked fierce, but I think we all know (or hope) that she will do a lot better next year.
