Regatta: The Head of the Charles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Regatta: Head of the Charles running October 22-23, 2011 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. is an event that many Bostonians and college students look forward to on a yearly basis. Just a short shuttle ride away from Brandeis, Head of the Charles boasts some of the international big leagues in the world of professional rowing. Everyone in the city flocks to the Charles River by Harvard University just to catch a glimpse of some the elites. This event is a great way to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, the stunning views of Harvard and hangout with the Harvard students.

As a weathered Bostonian myself, I enjoy the all of the great freebies you get at the event. Brands like Nautica, Odwalla, Dunkin Donuts and many more come to the banks of the Charles to give out amazing free goodies to all of visitors. I have never tried so many delicious new foods and gotten so many free pairs of Nautica boxers as I did when I went to Head of the Charles.

While you’re at it, take the time to cheer on some of the rowers and snap some pictures of the entire affair. The best places to watch are the Western Avenue Bridge, the BU bridge, and the River Street bridge. Wherever you decide to view the race, you are sure to have a ball when you do it!

Be sure to check out this exciting Boston fall activity because I assure you that few places in the country have something quite like this! The best part is that it’s easily accessible by the Brandeis Crystal Shuttle and the commuter rail.
