It’s that to choose classes (again!) Here’s some sage advice to remember while on Sage.
- Start early. Look at classes now, before registration starts, so you’ll have a game plan. Make sure to look at prerequisite courses and whether or not you’ll need permission or an access code from a professor in order to register.
- Start small. Register for your smallest classes first, because those will fill up the fastest. Seminars, PE classes, and lab sections have a limited number of spaces. Sign up for large intro classes last.
- Save your selections. Save classes in the enrollment-shopping cart so that when your registration appointment comes, you don’t have to search for your class again.
- Sketch a schedule. Remember those colorful block schedules you used to color in middle school? Make one of those to help plan your fall schedule. Put all the classes you’re considering into a time schedule, and see what conflicts might arise, and what you might need to move around.
- Stick to the plan. If you know you need to take a certain class for your major or for a pre-professional track, stick to it. It’s so easy to look at all the courses offered and want to take all of them—and forget that what you really need to be taking is orgo for premed. Find a different fun class to take that doesn’t get in the way of what you need to do.
- Shop. Take advantage of the shopping period by singing up for 5 or even 5.5 classes now, and then dropping one during the semester. It’s okay to sign up and change your mind—who knows what your interests will be 5 months from now, when the semester starts.
- Stay cool. If you don’t get all your classes, don’t freak out. If you need a certain class as a prerequisite or as a major requirement, email the professor and see if you can get on the demand list. And remember that there could be students who will drop the course during the shopping period.

Chose this class first…
….and this one last.
