Her Campus: So how did you end up at Brandeis?
Simon Romano: I grew up watching movies about college and had a certain picture of college life and I applied to schools that fit my idea. I knew I wanted to go to school in America. My dad recommended I go to Brandeis and that’s how I ended up here.
HC: What are you involved with on campus?
SR: I am the philanthropy chair of Phi Kappa Psi, I am going to Honduras in February with Global Brigades, and I am an active member of the entrepreneurship club
HC: How did you get involved with these things?
SR: I did Phi Psi to help my social life. In 2009, I took a trip to Nepal and it was life changing and when I got here a brother started telling me about global brigades so that’s how I ended up in microfinance with global brigades.
HC: What do you like to do for fun at Brandeis?
SR: Stroll around campus, it’s a very nice campus.
HC: Do you miss Mexico a lot? Is it hard being so far away from home?
SR: I miss it every single day. Sometimes it’s hard being away from home because I miss my dog! I talk to my family at least every couple of days
HC: What are the biggest differences between Boston and Mexico?
SR: It’s a very different culture, values are different, and government is different. Mexico is “beautiful anarchy.” Everything here is so organized to a point where it’s almost creepy; at home everything just flows. People are also more uptight here. And the weather sucks, the weather is perfect in Mexico. Also, the food at home is better, I miss it so much.
HC: Do you prefer Mexican women or American women?
SR: They are different you can’t really compare them.
HC: What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
SR: I plan on going home and going all out on everything I missed. I am going to see my friends, play with my dog, and eat awesome food.
HC: What are three things you could not live without?
SR: Movies, my dog, my iPhone
HC: What is your biggest pet peeve?
SR: the overuse of a word
HC: Do you have any hidden talents?
SR: I am amazing at playing the kazoo
HC: What are three qualities you look for most in a girl?
SR: Nice eyes, the ability to hold a decent conversation, and a weird sense of humor
HC: What would your ideal date be?
