Meet Tyrone “Ty” Hughes. He’s one of the captains of the Brandeis men’s basketball team, and I was lucky enough to get him to answer some questions about the season, the team and his life at Brandeis.
Q: What year are you? What’s your major?
A: I’m a junior, I’m majoring in Economics.
Q: How many seasons have you been playing? What’s your position?
A: I’ve been playing for three seasons; I’m one of the captains and I play point guard.
Q: How is the team doing this season, compared to last season?
A: So far the team is doing all right; we started off 11-0 but we hit a tough patch, but now we’re getting back on track. We have a lot of freshmen in comparison to last year when we had mostly seniors, and they would bring the energy everyday.
Q: What’s the best part of being an athlete on campus?
The best part of being an athlete on campus is that you get to represent the whole school. Being an athlete here allows me to connect with the student body, and as a team we feed off of their energy at the games.
Q: Where’s your favorite place to eat on campus?
A: My favorite place to eat on campus is my room in Ridgewood. I’m a chef, so I cook all of my meals.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: In my free time I like to shop for sneakers, party and hang out with my friends and family.
Q: Tell us a funny/random fact about you!
A: Something random about me is that I met Nelson Mandela three years ago when I went to South Africa. It was one of the most humbling experiences of my life.
So there you have it, Her Campus readers: He’s a star basketball player who loves to cook (I know I love it when my man cooks…), likes to shop (and that’s rare) and most importantly is leading the Brandeis men’s basketball team to victory. Now it’s up to you all to support the team!
