This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Day after day eating at Usdan? Yuck. Sherman? Even worse! So how do Brandeis students deal with the shortage of good food on campus? Well, Stephanie Lau has started to cook… and blog! Her words of wisdom cover everything from how to stir up a quick dinner to advice for heading into Boston for a hearty meal. And boy, do we think her recipes look good.

Name: Stephanie Lau
Year: 2011
Hometown: Hong Kong

When did you start your food blog?
I actually started a while ago, but I barely updated it. But then recently my best friend started blogging a lot, and she was telling me all about it. That made me have interest again to start blogging. Also, there are a lot of places that I want to eat and recipes I want to try, so I started taking photos. So yeah, I really started updating more this semester.

How do you decide what you want to blog about?
If there are restaurants that I feel are unique and I really liked, I will blog about it so I can let people know about it. If I cook, it’s usually a dish that I plan out and want to make that specific thing. It’s normally more complicated and worthy of having a post.

What has been your favorite recipe?
I really like the ones I make up myself. Sometimes I look at whatever I have in the house and end up making up my own recipes. The most recent ones were a beef stew and a fruit tart. I looked up recipes, but I didn’t have all the ingredients; but using my knowledge of what certain things taste like, I just improvised. It turned out well.

Your favorite restaurant?
Neptune Oyster was good, and I blogged about that. There was also another one called Sportello that I really liked. These are restaurants that I feel are very charming. It’s nice to get out in Boston and go to these small restaurants. Sometimes it’s hard; like for Neptune Oyster, we had to go really early at 5:30 because they don’t take reservations, but it’s totally worth it. Also, Toro in Boston is amazing, and another one I loved was Pizzeria Mozza in LA.

Have you blogged about restaurants out of Boston?
Actually yeah, over February break I went to LA, and that helped with me starting to blog more. I did a lot of restaurant reviews when I was in LA. I really like Maestro’s. We also went to this Mexican place that was on Man v. Food and had great burritos. I had a whole list of restaurants I wanted to go to. Wherever I am, I’ll write about the restaurants.

Do you cook for other people? Friends? Dates?
Yeah, I always used to cook for my friends. In the beginning of the year, we used to have house dinners all the time. Sometimes I’ll invite a friend over and cook for them. We also have a lot of potluck dinners where everyone will bring a dish. Sometimes we have a theme!

Do you bake? What do you prefer?
When I was younger, I started out baking, but I think I prefer cooking more. With cooking, there’s more variety and technique.

Will you teach us how to cook?
Sure!

What is one thing that Her Campus readers don’t know about you that you’d like them to?
I out-ate my male housemate in Brazilian BBQ!
