It’s hard to be a good student when there are things that stop you. Those things could be boys, girls, or even just friends who distract you from your work from time to time. In my case, however, it’s the school WIFI which has consistently been the bane of my existence since the beginning of the year. We live in an age where we rely on computers and internet connection, and for a college student, it’s because it is the fastest way we can communicate with our teachers and get our grades. We can get immediate feedback without having to worry about what we got on our tests or assignments like many of us did in high school; it was at the teachers’ discretion to grade and release grades to students. Because we are so reliant on this technology, we fail to realize its shortcomings like with all the innovations in human history.
At one point there was a test that I was supposed to take in class, but because the WIFI was so bad I was required to take the test at home with my only saving grace being the only Ethernet cable I own.
To be completely honest, if I told you I was the only one who hates a poor WIFI connection I’d be lying. Lack of connection also has an effect on the faculty just as much as it has the students. When the faculty can’t contact their students about important information everyone tends to stay out of the loop. People are fed up with the lack of connection and it makes a college students life that much harder because we obviously need something else to worry about, right?
But in all honesty, it’s not so bad as it benefits the students by giving us the much-desired extra time on any assignments we may have forgotten to do. It really is a blessing and a curse when you put it all into perspective. In reference to work going forward, I do hope this is an issue that gets resolved. It would be for the benefit of the students and faculty; then we wouldn’t need to adjust class plans because of our dependency on the WIFI. WIFI works when it wants to; it’s a fickle little thing that we can’t live without.
