On the night of October 16, the G.O.P Office of Hillsborough North Carolina was attacked. The Office was firebombed and graffiti saying “Nazi Republicans leave town or else”, was written on the adjacent wall. According to The New York Times, the members of Hillsborough could not believe this had happened. Members of the community described the town as peaceful, both parties staying civil throughout this tough election.
I think this incident proves a lot about both parties if you know the whole story.
The Democratic Party does not stand by while injustice happens. By Monday morning, a GoFundMe page was made by democrats to raise money for the G.O.P Office. More than $13,000 had been raised by the end of the day for the rebuilding of the office. The Democratic Party does not believe that violence is the solution to any problems. One man even said when donating that, “I’m a democrat, but I don’t believe in violence”. The firebomber still has not been identified, so we don’t know if this was done by a democrat or by someone else with a different motive. Who did it does not matter as much as you’d think it would to the Democratic Party. What they care about the most is that everybody has a fair shot at winning and that the office gets back on its feet.
On the other hand, the Republican Party shows many strengths from this occurrence, the main ones being perseverance and determination. Within just one day, the leaders of the office had wasted no time in getting back out there. They set up folding chairs under the awning of what was once their building. They were signing up volunteers and giving out signs without skipping a beat. This is a fine example of how hard it is to knock down the Republican Party. Every time they take a blow, they get back on their feet.
