5 Accessories That Will Help You Survive The British Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bristol chapter.

In recent times it has become clear that the British weather, once a mystical and fateful force that saved us from the Spanish armada (amongst many other plights) has now turned its back on its good folk. Dear mother nature has favoured instead to drench us with despairing waters and the oh so occasional burst of mocking sunshine; around for long enough to show us what we’re missing, but gone far too soon.

Although some of us are starting to give up the possibility of ever seeing sunnier seasons, or, dare I say it, life itself, I have devised a cunning list of things that should help you in your endeavours to stay warm and dry, this “spring”:

1/ The customary wellie boots are, unfortunately, unavoidable in these flooded parts. Maybe have some fun with them and opt for a pretty pattern, like these:

2/ Another winter essential is a good pair of gloves, hat, and scarves. If you’re feeling particularly creative, you could follow the lead of this clever pre-teen and opt for an all in one.

3/ Find yourself a decent spooning buddy (tried and tested). It may seem a bit shallow, but the perfect thing in these frosty, muddy times, (particularly for those of us that can’t afford a daylong radiator splurge), is a well made man. Bristol boys are, for the most part, gentle and attentive spooners, and with the rain pouring down outside what more could you ask for than to be cuddled up in bed with your own personal space heater?

4/ If the idea of spooning someone for warmth doesn’t take your fancy, there is of course a more conventional alternative. Widely known as a ‘hot water bottle’, this is a dream catch for those of you that  would love to just snuggle in bed and watch a film, with the roar of Bristolian winds in the background. This incredible invention will take pride and joy in warming even the iciest pair of feet!

5/ In these disheartening times, you will also need a strong sense of determination. The only way to beat the weather is to be strong, resilient, and resolve not to get worn down by  the stormiest of circumstances, (whilst maximising your survival potential with a snuggly cashmere jumper). Come rain or shine (we all know what that means), a stiff upper lip will be your best buddy, so go ahead and embrace those muddy pavements!
