Bristol’s Best Independent Clothing Stores

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bristol chapter.

Bristol has been voted the UK’s number one place to own a business. With an abundance of independent and unique clothing shops on our doorsteps, it would be wrong not to explore them! Here are HC’s favourite local stores.

1. Rag Trade Boutique

Where: Upper Maudlin Street

What: Rag Trade is an initiative which will resell your unwanted designer clothes if they are in good condition. The shop take a cut and you can receive store credit or get cash. Think of it as a real-life Ebay mixed with classy charity shop: bargains galore!

2. That Thing

Where: Stokes Croft

What: Previously Dutty, this local shop recently lost its two year legal battle with clothing giant Massimo Dutti who demanded a rebranding due to copyright. With its new look, That Thing calls itself an independent lifestyle brand and is an up and coming label to watch.

3. RePsycho

Where: Gloucester Road

What: RePsycho sells multi-gendered new and used clothing, accessories and homeware. Calling themselves a “retro superstore” there is definitely something for everyone here, from vintage bomber jackets to beautiful china tea sets.

4. Sobey’s

Where: Park Street

What: This vintage clothing store is extremely well known by Bristol students. Its definitely more of a treat yo’ self shop as it can be pricey, but its great for buying presents or finding good quality staple items.

5. Loot

Where: Haymarket Walk

What: Loot describes itself as a “vintage warehouse”. Its location near the Bear Pit places it perfectly between the unique Stokes Croft shops and commercial Cabot Circus, so no matter what your taste, there is no excuse to ignore Loot. With an impressive variety of clothes on offer, it is one of Bristol’s best independent stores.
