The Ultimate Guide To What Your Music Taste Says About You

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bristol chapter.

We all have very distinctive music tastes and there is a lot to find out about ourselves and others by looking at what we jam out to! In this article, we are going to look at what your music taste says about you, what you’re like as a friend, and your favourite colours. I’ll also recommend you a song to listen to!

This is not an extensive list- just a select few, so apologies if your favourite music genre is not listed!

Pop

Recommendation: Sister Ray by Foxes

You like to be ‘on-trend’ and are always looking for new styles and fashions to sink your teeth into. You are seen as the ‘upbeat’ friend and have an extensive knowledge of pop culture. Your favourite colour is something bright and retro – bubblegum pink and butterscotch yellow.

Rock

Recommendation: Terrible Town by Airways

You pride yourself on being in tune with current affairs. You tend to bring passion and intensity to every project you undertake. Your friends would see you as the singular person to turn to in times of need and difficulty. Your favourite colour is ‘Fender Guitar’ red and lapis blue.

Classical

Recommendation: Gnossienne: No.1 by Erik Satie and Alexandre Tharaud

Typically, you are very sophisticated and mature. Of your many accomplishments, you are particularly proud of the things you have achieved under high pressure. Your friends may class you as the studious friend, but you bring a reliability and calm that many lack. Your favourite colour is the classy chiffon cream and baby blue.

Country

Recommendation: What’s Your Country Song by Thomas Rhett

In everything you do, you are very down-to-earth and bring a quality of humbleness that many are envious of. When in a group of friends, you are constantly the person that is making others laugh. When you are not making people giggle, you bring kindness and trust to every friendship. Your favourite colour is tawny brown and iris purple.

Musical theatre

Recommendation: Out of Your Head by Bobby Conte Thornton, Ariana DeBose, and A Bronx Tale Original Broadway Ensemble

You bring the drama! The energy you have is unparalleled which you inject into every mundane task. You are certainly the ‘fun’ one of your friendship group. Many would also call you talented, although sometimes a bit loud! Your favourite colour is canary yellow and seafoam green.

Alternative

Recommendation: Metafeeling by Hayden Thorpe

The energy you bring to every room is so whimsical. Others praise you for your eccentricity and your friends would definitely see you as the ‘coffee date’ friend, one to turn to for advice on career and personal life alike. Your favourite colour is sage green and buttermilk yellow.

Heavy metal

Recommendation: Anything at All by Dead by April

Whilst your choice of music is too intense for some, it is easy to see how zealous and animated you are! Your friends envy your ability to be in tune with your emotions and may even refer to you as their resident ’emotional support’ friend. Your favourite colour is garnet red and anchor grey.

EDM

Recommendation: Time by Asjockers

You are definitely the life of the party! You are incredibly energetic at all times of the day. You are also the friend to have fun with! But this doesn’t mean that you also aren’t a good shoulder to cry on. Your favourite colour is electric blue and Barbie pink.
