Judaism is the religion of the Jewish people. Jews are guided by the Torah.
God
I worship God. I believe he is the one true almighty God who spoke to Abraham. I believe I am one of God’s chosen people.
Â
Ten Commandments
I follow the Ten Commandments. These are the laws which were given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. They teach me how to live a good life.
Â
Worship
Our worship is led by the Rabbi who reads from the Torah. The word Torah comes from the Hebrew word for “law” or “teaching” and its words are meant to guide us in life. It should never be touched by hand so it is always read with a yad.
Â
Synagogue
The synagogue is our holy temple where Jews go to worship. It is the centre of our community where we go to meet other Jews, study and ask for religious advice.
Â
Shabbat
Shabbat is the seventh day of the Jewish week on which God rested after creation. Shabbat lasts from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. Every Friday, my family shares a Shabbat meal of Kosher Food.
Â
Pesach
We celebrate the Feast of Passover (Pesach) to commemorate the liberation from slavery of the Children of Israel who were led out of Egypt by Moses.
