1. Outline the BIG CHUNKS:
- Identify the topics to be covered and studied.
- These topics are your tasks.
2. Break it down and list the sub – tasks:
- Identify and list the steps that need to be taken in order to completely cover each task.
- Ask: WHAT and HOW?
- WHAT are you trying to accomplish?
- HOW will you accomplish it?
EX: “Study Chapter 1” covers WHAT, and HOW?
“Review summary of Chapter 1 and do practice questions from textbook”, answer WHAT and HOW?
3. Weigh the tasks and sub – tasks:
- Which section did your teacher/lecturer/professor emphasize the most?
- Which section did you struggle the most with?
- Highlight and remember these tasks, for they need more attention.
4. Decide WHEN do each sub – task needs to be done!
Follow the seven day study plan:
- Day 1: Organize your study materials and check if anything is missing.
Study/Review material emphasized on:
- Day 2: Lectures
- Day 3: Textbook
- Day 4: Lectures and Textbook
- Day 5: Lectures
- Day 6: Textbook
- Day 7: Review all and catch up with what you couldn’t do on Day 2 through Day 6.
Decide, based on the seven day plan, when each sub – task will be done.
Bear in mind the highlighted tasks! Assign more time to do them!
Tips:
- Study a maximum of 2 hours per night. Total hours of study must be between 10 to 14 hours.
- Review constantly before the test/exam approaches!
- Try to complete all the tasks planned for the day before you go to sleep.
- Sleep at least 6 hours a night before the test!
