What’s You Skin Type?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Broward chapter.

Knowing your skin type is the first crucial step toward establishing an effective skin care routine. While everyone’s skin is different, most people’s skin falls into 1 of 5 categories. Knowing which category you fall into will help you understand which products will yield the best results.

Normal Skin

Your skin is characterized as normal is it’s not too oily or dry. If you have normal skin, your pores should be barely visable, and you should have minimal blemishes and no sensitivities.

Dry Skin

If you have dry skin, your skin is rough and dull in complexion. You likely have dry, red bloches, and your skin is especially prone to peeling and cracking. Dry skin is also less elastic and therefore more prone to fine lines and wrinkles.

Oily Skin

Skin is characterized as oily if your pores are enlarged and your skin is shiny. A trademark of oily skin is blackheads and acne.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is just that, a combination od dry and oily skin. Typically, your T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) will be oily while your cheeks will be dry.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive Skin is a sub-category of each of the four main skin types. Skin can become sensitive regardless of skin type and mostly occurs as a reaction to certain skin care products. The signs of sensitive skin include redness, itching, and dryness.
