I recently received a message from Brown’s Art History listserv announcing the forthcoming Salvador Dali exhibit “Aliyah: The Rebirth of Israel” at the Brown RISD Hillel. Suffering from a mild obsession with Dali, I immediately contacted Hannah, RISD junior and co-chair of the Hillel Gallery Project, for more information. During my Google search for her contact information, I came across her portfolio, an especially remarkable one packed with brilliant colours and striking personalities from her life. As we are exploring the concept of glasses this week, Hannah’s paintings offer an ideal visual counterpart to our articles on the main page. Glasses are a physical obstacle, splicing the line of pure human vision with their wiry frame. Yet, they sharpen the perplexity, the bleariness, to ultimately enrich our experience of seeing. What would we do without them?Â
