This past weekend was parents’ weekend at Brown. I was lucky enough to have both of my parents come for the weekend. Apart from spending quality time with my mom and dad, a major perk of having them come to visit was being able to try some of Providence’s amazing restaurants.
On Saturday night of parents’ weekend I was lucky enough to have dinner at Mare Rooftop in Wayland Square. This rooftop restaurant was a 10/10. The restaurant is a short three to four minute drive from Brown’s campus and definitely walkable if the weather is nice. Mare Rooftop has a sleek and modern aesthetic with an impressive indoor/outdoor seating arrangement. Don’t worry about being cold if you choose to sit outside—the outdoor tables have built in fire pits, and there’s plenty of extra space heaters. The restaurant’s location on the rooftop of a tall building in Wayland Square gives it a sprawling 360 degree view of Providence. This view is particularly striking at night because all the city buildings are lit up.
Although the design of the restaurant is impressive, I was even more impressed by the food. I would classify the menu as modern American—there’s a little bit of everything! My parents and I started with the artisan charcuterie board and the crispy brussel sprouts. Both appetizers were delicious. The charcuterie board was quite large, packed with a variety of cheeses, spreads, and cured meats. My parents both ordered the filet mignons for their main entrees. Neither of them could stop raving about their selection. I opted for the prosciutto arugula pizza. It was incredible. The pizza was the perfect order because I was able to take a couple slices back to my apartment to save for lunch the next day. Finally, we concluded dinner by splitting the skillet cookie for dessert. The cookie came fresh out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I couldn’t have asked for a better end to a wonderful dinner.
If your family is visiting or you and your friends are looking to splurge on a nice restaurant, Mare Rooftop is the place to go. Enjoy!
