4 Reasons To Try Hot Yoga

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Hot yoga (also known as Bikram Yoga) is becoming more and more popular.  What is it?  Bikram yoga is a type of yoga which is practiced in a 105 degree room for 90-minutes with about 26 different positions and two breathing exercises. A mouthful. The humidity in the room reaches about 40%, so sweating is inevitable. Since it is becoming the new craze we figured we’d throw some of the benefits to you. Go out there and try it! The closest classes near Bryant seem to be in Providence over at Boiler House Bikram Yoga!

1. Detox: Without a doubt, you will SWEAT, SWEAT, and SWEAT! Sweating profusely allows you to burn more fat. Each session is about 60-90 minutes, so people usually burn 500 to 1,000 calories!

2. Flexibility: With all of the stretching and movements, there is no doubt that Bikram allows one to become more flexible.

3. Skin and Beauty: Perspiration is a secret weapon for keeping our skin looking its best. Sweating opens up and unclogs our pores, which can help with trouble areas on your face and can keep your skin glowing!

4. Stress Management: We’re all busy with school, work, and a social life, so how do you deal with stress? During Bikram, you forget about literally everything, besides the movements and the heat! You become so focused on maintaining the correct pose and the sweat dripping down your entire body, so there is no time to think about those upcoming tests and projects.
