Advice on Making a Long Distance Relationship Work

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Maintaining long distance relationships are not easy. Most couples throw in the towel after the first argument, but there are couples who can make it work with a few simple steps. Trying to make a stable relationship that has been built off of trust, honesty, and love is always a lot easier than one that is not. Nothing will take away those insecurities that you get when the other person is away. You focus on communication, and telling your partner when something is bothering you and when you feel a certain way. Of course, with the busy college life you find yourself always busy; dealing with stress, homework and friends, clubs, sports and jobs. Among all of this it is important to make time for each other. Whether it’s a Skype video chat, a phone call, or a text, feeling like you’re important and like they care is what helps comfort you in making the distance not so hard. Then late night Skype calls when you get deep and talk about everything and anything, those are what bring you closer together. There is absolutely nothing more comforting than experiencing some romance when you are hundreds of miles apart. Flowers, texts, calls, or candy… it recreates that love that you found for each other in the first place. Those are the feels and the emotions that you get when experiencing a long distance relationship.
