Keeping it Simple – An Interview with Jayne DeRouin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Prepping for finals week is always stressful.  Luckily, Jayne DeRouin has studied ways to simplify your life.  Take some time to read her book, Keeping It Simple, and find ways to de-stress, and find time for other activities besides cramming for that Finance Exam!

HC: Tell us about your book, Keeping it Simple?

JD: My book, Keeping It Simple! ~ Keys to Living an Uncomplicated Life, guides the reader to reflect upon, evaluate and potentially modify their current way of life.  It is a self-help/wellness book that supports your mind, body & soul.  Privately, I believe people would openly share their hunger for simple ways to navigate their way through life.  Keeping It Simple! provides keys that help you do exactly that.

HC: What advice would you give to Bryant students on keeping it simple?

JD: The best advice I could give to any student is to trust your instincts.  We all have our own inner-compass, if you will, that provides us with a tool we can turn to find direction.  Although most of us use it in certain decision-making situations, we don’t always listen and trust our instincts in others.  Using our instincts is a powerful and important keeping it simple key.

HC: What are some tricks you yourself use?

JD: Well, one trick, or as I like to call them, keys, that I use is daily affirmations.  Positive affirmations are extremely important and are so beneficial.  Stating the same message, out loud and even to ourselves, over and over again, sends a powerful message out in to the world, but more importantly, that message gets engrained within our mind and heart. Ultimately, by using daily affirmations, we can change the way think about something, the way we feel and respond to situations in our lives.  Affirmations serve as reminders to what it is we believe and what we truly want for ourselves.

HC: Where can students find your book?

JD: Keeping It Simple! can be purchased online at www.Amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com, and locally, in any RI Whole Foods store.
