For all those Marketing, Communication, Liberal Arts, etc majors… We’ve all heard some degrading comments about our degrees. Anyone can “do marketing” or “everyone knows how to communicate” are common examples. For this reason, some students begin to second guess themselves. We are here to tell you not to!
There should be an end to these types of comments. Not everyone can be creative, can write, or even create elaborate communication for major companies. There are people made to conduct research, people made to analyze financial statements, and people made to design. Having a particular major over another does not make you any smarter or better than your peers. Although majoring in Accounting, Finance, Biology, or International Business might increase the chances of a high paying job, it is just as important to follow your passion. Forget about the comments your friends make or what society thinks. The very fact that you are in college pursuing a degree is an accomplishment in itself!
Majoring in a certain major does not prove any level of intelligence. It only shows your interests and passions.
So for all those people making these comments, think twice before you speak. Your fellow classmate, friend, or collegiette is trying their very best to discover themselves through academics. Don’t make it even harder for them to pursue it! Be confident in your major. Forget about the title. It is how much you dedicate yourself to learning and apply the material that really counts.
