My Freshmen Story is a freshmen blog series written by our talented HC Bryant staff. We decided to start this because we’ve all been in those shoes that ached in nervousness, excitement, and confusion before beginning our first day as Bryant University freshmen. We know you are about to put on those shoes and figured you’d love to know exactly what to expect…so ready for your freshmen year?
I consider myself one of the lucky ones. Spring semester of my senior year I joined the freshmen Class of 2014 Facebook group for my school. Many people had shared roommate postings, club information, etc. Here I found my roommate and soon to be best friend, Stacey.
She replied to my posting looking for a roommate who likes cheerleading, movies, hanging out with friends… she loved everything I did. We later met in February that year for cheerleading tryouts and immediately hit it off. This made my transition into college 100 times easier.
We did everything together..went to the dining hall, attended events and classes; we were attached at the hip. It was the best feeling knowing, I was 500 miles from home but pretty much had a sister with me at all times. We became so close, that even after we both transferred our sophomore year (I’m now at Bryant University, and she’s at Temple University in Philadelphia,) we still keep in constant communication and plan annual visits to see each other.
This made my freshmen year one of the best experiences I have had. A good roommate makes your time at school all the better!
Remember if your’e going random, answer the roommate questionnaire as honest as possible so you can get a great match. Also, if your roommate isn’t the best match, wait a week and see if you can switch rooms to find a better fit for you! Bryant is great with roommate matching. Even if your roommate is not a perfect fit for you, dorm living has its many benefits. You are given dozens of girls to mingle with and make friendships, they’re all a few doors down from you and are just as eager to make new friendships. The girls you meet your freshmen year, will follow you throughout college and even life after, they’re your new live-in best friends that are available 24-7, it’s a never-ending sleepover!
