We are now into the second chapter of the best book ever (aka The Naked Roommate: and 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College by Harlan Cohen). This chapter is called Residence Halls: Living, Eating, and Bathing with Hundreds of Strangers. It explains how to basically survive living in a brand new place with brand new people and how to do it effectively. The top two tips that we found most useful in this chapter were:
Meet people without even trying: Living in residence halls is very good place to meet a ton of people, by just leaving your door open or going into the lobby. Really, anywhere you go you’ll inevitably meet someone you won’t know.
The ugly side of resident life: There is always going to be a bad side to living with people, such as stealing and being loud. You need to appreciate these ugly sides of resident life for all of its beauty. It’s what makes this college thing a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Living in a new environment can be both very scary and exciting at the same time. Just live in the moment, make it a good year, don’t forget to lock the doors and windows when you go out and don’t lose your key. You’ll get through it and have fun doing it. If not, talk to your RAs because they can help!
